In the top 5, there were these 3 Luis Dominguez covers,

only one book, #42, by Joe Kubert (4th place):

All in all, Dominguez had 5 top-10 books, Kubert had 4, and Evans had 1.

Very interesting when you break it down. :D

Can't understand how 14 hung in there so long. A nice cover but nothing outstanding IMO. 27 should be there in its place, love that Nazi sub cover. All in all great voting by everyone as I believe the last two surely deserve their ranks! (thumbs u

#15 is great but the only things is I don't recall any aerial bombing during the

first world war (except zeppelins)

not that it would matter that much with these horror covers......

Are you trying to influence us with that water stained reader copy#14

thirdgreenham??? lol

At the start of WW1, there really weren't many reliable planes for combat. The war's need for fighter and bomber planes really sped up the engineering and production of them. By the end of the war, there were many planes that were doing a terrific job, just as they were intended to do.

Both 14 and 27 made my short list, but for different reasons. To me, the theme of 14 is just plain spooky with the skeleton paratroopers falling from a "ghost" plane, while 27 is visually striking for the art and colors. 24 combines both a scary theme, but IMO also benefits from the colors used. In black and white I don't think that cover would be as impactful.
