shiverbones
great colors on the WF101! Thanks for posting, they did use that weird khaki color from time to time, and its very unique. I almost bid on a copy tonight...
steelcity
Calling Silver.... Danny, you said you would like to see my scans at higher resolution, well here we go. This is a different copy of Adventure Comics #284 to the one I posted before. I bought it years ago from Harley Yee, who graded it a NM so I was pretty excited about it. This first scan was taken at my usual 96dpi, in order to keep file size down: Here is the same scan taken at 200dpi, though I have still downgraded the file size a bit so it will hopefully be accepted on the boards. Can you tell the difference? Edited January 28, 2007 by steelcity

october
I would love it if people posted more 10 cent romance books. You just NEVER see them.
adamstrange
I would love it if people posted more 10 cent romance books. You just NEVER see them. The back covers are quite often better than the front covers -- as in the wonderful example below from Silver. Even in high grade most of the front covers would look pretty lame -- non-descript Romita.
Silver
I would love it if people posted more 10 cent romance books. You just NEVER see them. Wish I had more, those were some fluke finds on eBay. I wish Michelle Nolan frequented the boards. There is a story behind DC's romance titles, but I don't know the details. They are different than the rest of their books. I think DC published them for Arligh until the 60's when they became DC titles. Like horror, DC romance is just more collectible than Marvel romance. The DC books can be very collectible just because of the covers. Maybe I will scan a few of the 12 centers I have for the other thread.
Scrooge
Here is the same scan taken at 200dpi, though I have still downgraded the file size a bit so it will hopefully be accepted on the boards. Can you tell the difference? While not Danny, I can confirm that the difference is noticeable and for the beauties of books you're posting, I can say we would all want to always see the book at the higher resolution. Romita If those were the options I would go with Romita as well. I have a handful of the DC Romance issues so there are definitely ones that I like -- but I have found that I like the back covers better. Atlas, btw, has some very nice romance covers in this time period. Most of them are not good (Atlas was a factory producing way too much product) but in process a minority of them are quite good. Vince Colleta (an evil name to some due to his inking of Kirby) knew how to draw attractive ladies.
Silver
This recent addition plugged in a hole to complete 110-121 for me. I like it when a set starts coming together: I wonder if Mel Gibson used this as his inspiration for Apocolypto

steelcity
Although this comic is not exactly a Krypto cover, can you guess where he's hidden, children?
steelcity
The subtle changes in color from one book to another is part of the charm of these old treasures. Whether the changes were from new, or over time, it is rare to find two copies of the same issue with exactly the same coloring. Here, the reds and greens look the same, while the grays and purples are slightly different.

Such serious subject matter back then. I'm surprised it got past the Comics Code. Ken

Silver
Shiver, Not all my books are high grade. Here is an example of one I would like to upgrade and is the same type of cover as the Adventure you posted: I had a very tough time finiding a nice copy of this book, so when it got down to this being the last issue I needed between 129-200 I just got myslef a "placeholder"...unfortunaltely I have only seen one graded copy since then that I liked and it went for more than I wanted to spend. Which brings up a different point...I don't spend "stupid" money on my books. I may occasionaly pay more than I would like to but I am generally conservative. Being a higher grade collector who always watches what they spend can be a bit frustrating, but also pretty rewarding when you get some of those books you have been looking for. By the way...the last of these types of covers can be found in Lois Lane 15, which I do not have a copy of. Perhaps Steelcity or someone else has a nice copy of the book to post.
