The Boys

I love The Boys series. So much so that my local comic shop owner surprised me with this when he came back from MegaCon back in 2007, sketched and signed by Darick Robertson.

I'm a huge Ennis fan and did enjoy this series. But it's also Exhibit A for books that would have benefited from having an editor. Great beginning, satisfying ending...but the middle was just too bogged down in unnecessary mythology and filler. As well, an editor might have tempered the tone, which became all excess and shock value to the point where it became predictable and dull.

 

If it had been condensed into say, two 12 issue minis, it could have been a classic.

I didn't help that it changed publishers after like 12 issues because DC started micro-managing Wildstorm around that time.
