The 'Guardians' Team Up With 'Yondu' In New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Clip

The upcoming series, which follows the sci-fi adventures of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot, has got plenty of fans excited (even those who hate Avengers Assemble, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk And The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. are cautiously optimistic). Following a number of two minute clips that Marvel Entertainment released, highlighting the origins of the various members of the group, they have now released a one minute (well, 0:51 minutes to be precise) clip showing the team all fighting together - alongside Yondu!

This Saturday is a sneak peek!

16 Things to Know about Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Animated Series

Collider (along with a handful of other press outlets) was recently invited over to the Disney xD offices to screen the first two episodes of the show – “Road to Knowhere” and “Knowhere to Run” – and to chat with those responsible for bringing it to life in animated form. Although this is its own story and not a sequel to what was set up in the film, it definitely captures the spirit of the characters and promises to expand on the team’s space adventures, while they cross paths with both familiar and new characters.

  • These Guardians are different from the ones that we’ve gotten to know in the feature film, but it does capture that spirit and energy. They’re calling the characters feel-alikes. VP of Marvel Animation Stephen Wacker said, “We worked on our series before the movie was even out there. Once we saw the movie and saw the direction that James Gunn and everybody was going with it, we decided to change course and make our show match closer to the film. I do believe the way we’ve staged it with the other series, if you accept the fact that this is the beginning of the team, as it goes on, it will all line up.”

  • When it comes to licensing the songs, Lane said, “We started development on this show, a year prior to the movie’s release, so the first thing they did was read the -script, which already had pop songs noted in it. We listened to them while reading the -script and we knew immediately that we had to find a way to bring that element to the show. It’s not only tonally important, but it’s an important character element to Peter Quill.” They had a library of thousands of songs from the ‘70s to comb through and decide which songs would suit the show and the stories they want to tell, and that have lyrics that are appropriate for their audience. From that, they came up with a list.

That's so cool that the music has become so linked to the series. And I have to agree after watching the movie again the other day. It truly makes it stand out from recent comic book films.

Glad the animated series will stay the course with the soundtrack.

Jonathan Frakes Cast As Star-Lord's Dad In Guardians Of The Galaxy Animated Series

Not many people commanded more respect than Commander William Riker, and the actor behind the role, Jonathan Frakes, is bringing that same authoritative voice to Guardians of the Galaxy: The Animated Series.

Frakes will be voicing the role of J'Son, who is best known for being Star Lord's dad. He also happens to be the king of the Spartax empire, and his place in both of those roles will be the focus of several episodes this season.
