Ben Grimm: I always thought him and Reed were friends. Ben is sort of an hole.

 

In the early issues Ben ranges from self-complaining to desperate, to angry, to childish in the blink of an eye. It surprised me as well when, as a kid, accustomed to the more recent stories I have read the early stories first.

 

But that is precisely what is so nice: that they mature, even the more mature ones like Ben which can’t accept the new condition of being a "rock monster": everything is always bound to heal, to grow, to point to a steady foundation which was implied in their decision to become the Fantastic Four. :)

 

A great story to me will always be Fantastic Four #30: Diablo really hits the weakest point of their friendship but this also makes Ben wonder what is really valuable.
