Court of Owls: What the F#@! is their first appearance?

43 posts in this topic

If you do a quick search for Court of Owls, you'll find much discrepancy relating to their first appearance.

I can't seem to find any CGC labels that reflect a first or any other kind of appearance either.

Wikipedia has their first appearance as Batman (2011 2nd series) issue #1.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_of_Owls#Members

DC wikia has their first appearance as Batman (2011 2nd series) issue #2.

http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Court_of_Owls

Batman wikia....yada yada states issue #1

http://batman.wikia.com/wiki/Court_of_Owls

Comicvine.....states issue #1

http://www.comicvine.com/batman-1-knife-trick/4000-293259/

Then I find this nutty listing on Ebay for Batman #6 from 'the comic slabbing company who shall not be named":

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BATMAN-6-PGX-9-8-like-CGC-DC-Comics-New-52-1st-full-app-of-the-Court-of-Owls-/131553739372?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1ea136c26c

States the "first full appearance of Court of Owls".

So comic folks, I need your help and discussion to weed out the truth. Wonder-forum powers activate!!!!

Actually thinking back there was only mention of the Owls in number one. The pins with owl pictures in the dead body. Talon first appears in number 2 and then Court of Owls appear in number 3 in a picture on the wall of Talon in the middle of a few members of the Court of Owls.

I thought it was "talons" plural and not necessarily Talon used as a first name for an individual.

Are we talking about Calvin Rose the only "talon" to escape the Court of owls making his first appearance in the 2nd issue?

It's both. Talons plural and also Calvin Rose is known as "Talon".

The Talon in Batman #2 is William Cobb.

Court of Owls is a great modern Batman story (thumbs u

Wowzers....

So William Cobb is aka: "THE TALON" and appears in Batman #2 (some references say #1, others say #2).

Got a Batman Wiki specifiying #1: http://batman.wikia.com/wiki/Talon_%28William_Cobb%29

DC Wikia specifying #2: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/William_Cobb_%28Prime_Earth%29

Then we've got Calvin rose aka "TALON" and appears in Talon #0?

Batman Wikia: http://batman.wikia.com/wiki/Talon_%28Calvin_Rose%29

DC wikia: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Calvin_Rose_%28Prime_Earth%29

Comicvine: http://www.comicvine.com/talon/4005-84206/

Alright, a bit more to discuss.....but WHICH TALON is featured in the Batman vs. Robin animated direct to video release?

I think it would be better to say William Cobb was "a Talon" or the "current Talon" at the time we were introduced to the Court of Owls.

Yes, Calvin was introduced in Talon #0, different to William Cobb.

As for the Animated Batman vs Robin... not seen it yet!

Alright: then let's get down to brass tacks then....

Let's HYPOTHETICALLY say that DC/WB is going to feature "The Court of Owls" in some future Batman movie with Affleck.

Who is MOST likely to be the main antagonist with relation to the Court of Owls?

hm

William Cobb (due to his relationship to Nightwing) with Lincoln March coming into play as the main villain later on. Possibly lol

lol, alright Bats...I'm gonna make you do some homework for this thread: watch that Batman vs. Robin video and let me know who THAT primary Talon is supposed to be.

Ok I've got an answer for you... but you're not going to like it.

Batman vs Robin is loosely based on the Court of Owls story arc but (as is quite often the case with the DCAU) there are significant differences between the two.

In "the book" we had one talon at a time (until they released the lot) and all were undead (William Cobb himself was over 110). In "the movie" we had lots of undead talons waiting to be released (experimentally) and a main talon who was a living trained soldier, completely different to the rest.

There doesn't appear to be any relationship between the book talon and the movie talon. Completely separate characters in separate stories.

In the movie, Talon dies, pretty much ruling out the prospect he'd come back in a sequel and be revealed as someone significant, e.g. Lincoln March.

However, if you want a crazy answer:

Future Damian from an alternate Earth
