Cover Proof for WAR AGAINST CRIME #11, dated Feb.-Mar., 1950 $550

Here’s a very rare black and white EC cover proof for EC's very first horror cover.

This original EC cover proof for WAR AGAINST CRIME #11 is actually what is known as a "silverprint." These type of prints would be sent from the printer to the EC offices so that BILL GAINES and AL FELDSTEIN could get a first glimpse of what a cover was going to look like. The next step in the process was to have EC's colorist, MARIE SEVERIN, hand color the print and send it back to the printer so that a color cover proof, on good cover stock, could be made.

But you probably know that.

Most of these were thrown away and few survive.

These silverprint cover proofs offer the chance for a collector to have an EC comic cover image, totally intact and untrimmed. Frame it up in your EC den at home and know that you've got an EC collectible that few others have ever seen or will ever own.

Here is an interesting pairing

What we have here is the original black and white proof and the printers color proof for

Crime Suspenstories #14 dated Dec – Jan 1952-53Jan. 1952-1953

I am just missing the OA (I wish) and the hand colored intermediate piece.

I am looking for $395 for each piece or $700 the pair.

By the way all these prints have COA's included.

Tales From the Crypt #20 "Impending Doom!" Silverprint Proof Group (EC, 1950). $495

Johnny Craig drew this strange seven-page story used as the cover feature for the first issue of Tales From the Crypt, all about an artist who unwittingly draws a portrait of his own killer.

This is the original set of Silverprint proof pages from 1950, each hand-colored by Marie Severin for us as a color guide. The pages have notations in pencil, but are otherwise in Excellent condition.
