Why didn't this comic sell on e-bay?

38 posts in this topic

Comic was a Silver Age Daredevil 1, raw in what seller described as a VF+. Except for a tiny 1/8" piece missing upper right corner and "Bill Everett" autograph in fine tip black marker on cover. From the scan, it looked fairly decent. Opening bid - $250.00 with a BIN of $999.00. Nobody bid on this. Wondering why it didn't sell? Seller's feedback was decent. Scan looked ok. Is it the signature? confused.gif

Be great if someone could pick up the scan and drop it into this post. (Don't know how it's done)

It's in the completed section with a BIN price of $250.00, shouldn't be too hard to find. There is defininitlysomething about back-issue values that I am missing here.

I'm one of those collectors that does not like writing of any kind on my books - including autographs. I think it defaces a book. Just my personal preference. When I see an ugly black scribble across the front of such a nice book it just kind of makes me sick. tongue.gif

What have mid-grades (5-7) been going for, before and after the movie-hype? I wouldn't mind upgrading my color-touched VG with a white-covered mid-grade, but don't buy into the hype!

It's a little tough to discern a pattern. There aren't enough sales in any given grade. A few samplings:

9.2 grade books show a definite downturn from last summer:

(Some of these are relistings of books that did not sell.)

6/16/02 - $7,101

7/21/02 - $7,200

8/10/02 - $7,600

8/18/02 - $6,600

8/28/02 - $6,300

9/9/02 - $5,300

10/11/02 - $6,499

10/27/02 - $6,000

11/03/02 - $3,250

11/08/02 - $3,800

11/1/7/02 - $1,592 (This might have been restored - don't know for sure)

9.0 grade #1's on the other hand show flat to slightly up

07/21/02 - $3,500

8/10/02 - $2,600

9/4/02 - $3,370

12/15/02 - $2,938

1/3/03 - $3,750

1/16/03 - $2,651

1/23/03 - $3,150

1/30/03 - $3,051

2/6/03 - $3,851

2/13/03 - $3,550

2/19/03- $4,251

A few random others show generally slightly higher prices since last summer:

7.0 05/22/02 $860, 02/21/03 $911

6.5 09/08/02 $735, 02/16/03 $1,000 (Another one on 2/16/03 went $750)

6.0 06/10/02 $676, 02/21/03 $734

5.5 08/10/02 $601, 2/18/03 $667

5.0 6/26/03 $400, 2/14/03 $490

4.5 7/1/02 $601, 2/17/03 $415

Don't have enough data to firmly support it, but it looks to me like there was a bit of a 'bubble' up in DD prices (maybe 10 to 20 percent) in December with prices lower before and after.

Ditto....

but I did buy a Nick Fury #2 signed by Steranko recently that was signed the same way....

Yo........you fanboys are all the same. tongue.gif

I can certainly understand people wanting to get an autograph of the artist (or whoever).......but I'm just suprised that more people don't get the signature done on the first page of the comic.......instead of on the cover. confused.gif

That way.....you still get the book autographed.....but the book doesn't lose it's nice appearance.

And I'm not sure on this one.....but if it's not signed on the cover.....then CGC probably wouldn't give it the dreaded shocked.gif "Qualified" grade (since a lot of collectors don't like anything but a blue label). Does anyone know if I'm assuming correctly on that?

I like what ricky(???) and other board members have had done....they have the artist sign the outside of a slabbed comic...that way you have the universal label, the signature in clear view and no harm has been done to the book... wink.gif

Oh...by the way bug... tongue.gif

Yep......I've seen a few books that have been signed on the slab.......seems like a good idea to me too.

I do wonder how well those sigs will hold up on that smooth plastic though.

Oops.....almost forgot the most important thing...... animal-smiley-068.gif
