Cat man comics vol.3 #1 (26) value

Ok. When was that sold?

The "date listed" on the CLink site is 10/19/2015. (I'm not sure whether that's the date the auction closed, but it doesn't make much difference.)

It's not a valuable enough book to bother slabbing if it's low grade, which is probably why there aren't many copies listed in the census.

That's one of the more common issues.

A slabbed 7.0 OW/W copy just sold for $1,005 on CLink.

http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3Dcatman%26GO%3DGO%26ItemType%3DCB&id=1089225

I'd expect a 6.0 to sell for around $600.

You would think, but this sale also happened recently. Looks like a 5.0, maybe a 6.0, from the scan.

The buyer overpaid in my opinion, but it just goes to show that you never know what a decently tough golden age book is capable of bringing on any given day.

If you look at the bids in that auction, you'll notice that the underbidder has 71% bid activity with that seller. That's a red flag to me.

That is a bit curious. That bidder also collects antique china and fixed blade knives according to other bids, but don't want to pigeonhole anyone in the hobby...

Even removing the underbidder from the action, who I am not convinced was a shill anyway, it still would have sold for at least a grand. The underbidder has bids with three other comic sellers, and it's not a stretch to think that most bids would be focused on a seller who has brought a pretty noteworthy collection to market (for eBay at least).

Not quite: without the underbidder, the book would have sold for $919* (but I see your point). That would have been a very strong price, but it isn't too unusual for a book to sell at 2X FMV in a bidding war.

If there was no shill bidding involved, the best explanation is that the top two bidders (and probably even the top three bidders) really didn't know what the book was worth and just let competitiveness take over.

*The third highest bidder came in at $909, and at that level eBay bidding increments are $10. Incidentally, the fourth highest bidder was all the way down at $178.

Has anyone here won a recent kittycatparade auction? I've been watching them as the account has been listing rarely seen books and the end prices have been strong but I would be curious to hear how the books are in hand.

Yeah, I did. Managed to purchase one off eBay when the thrill bidder disappeared from the scene. :acclaim:

It also looks like they deal in a lot of other non comic book items.

They also got some neggies from a buyer who said his GA books had resto. and were trimmed.

Did win a book that didn't go into the stratosphere (probably because two other books from the run with more 'killer cover' creed were also closing that night and got WAY higher bids, although one of those books has since been relisted by the sellere and is up for auction now). I'm almost certain the same individual bought both books. A nd if i'm right, wonder why they returned that one?

Any way, VERY happy with my win. Packing not the best, but book arrived 'unharmed'.
