A rare opportunity to buy the original color guide pages used to create the classic 1979 Frank Miller issue Daredevil #160.

 

These were hand-painted by renowned Marvel colorist Glynis Wein (then wife of Len Wein).

 

These 3 consecutive pages show Matt Murdock searching out Bullseye & Eric Slaughter in a tough bar, before kicking *spoon* Daredevil style.

Next two pages feature Matt Murdock and his girlfriend Heather Glenn at the funeral of her father Maxwell Glenn.

 

The 2nd, Page #11 sees MM being slapped in the face and a nice final panel with him saying "I hate being alone" in the shadow of Daredevil.

I had a PM about the purpose of the hand-written notes and who they're from.

 

It's often the colorist to the separators, to re-iterate how the published pages should look (after being made into proofs).

 

You also see notes from the inker to the colorist - Terry Austin often wrote notes for Glynis Wein on the Byrne / Claremont X-Men guides for instance.

 

Finally are notes from the artist to the colorist, where an artist who has a particular vision for the mood of the published comic will add notes to the copies of their artwork (the uncolored guides) before they're sent to the colorist. David Mazzucchelli did this on his DD run.

 

I'll leave the prospective buyers on these to work out what the notes say and who they're from but it's fun research to do as those notes are directly responsible for how these classic issues ended up looking.

You're right...

 

One set of handwriting refers to the "girl with red hair" but then a different hand notes the color codes and "Parker, Mary Jane". doh!
