  1. Funny to see this thread resurrected after all these years but sad to hear about this gentleman. Leadpink is still going strong so I wonder how many others there are in a similar position. I can only hope he was buying them as decorative pieces only and enjoyed them for what they are and not as genuine production art.
  2. I literally sold an Infantino Flash color guide page a few days ago on ebay !
  3. For sale - hand-painted color guide splash page from an unknown 1970's to early 1980's fantasy title, believed to be Gil Kane art. Full discussion on the possible origin & artist can be found here. Payment via paypal. $250 shipped.
  4. I don't think it's a portfolio page because you can see the Marvel style approval date box top right. It looks like 70's / 80's fantasy title to me, something like Elfquest, Saga Of Crystar or Elric but I've gone through what I can find of those titles and can't see it. Interestingly Elric did appear in Conan around that time, which ties in with the word "Barbarian" that I think I can see, but I can't find any page that matches. Also went through some Krull pages after the image search threw that up as a possibility, Marvel Super Special etc, but nothing matches.
  5. The indicia is the "blank" portion at the top of the page above the artwork. It's not actually blank but has title, issue number, page number, approval date etc but is too faint to read.
  6. Thanks for all the responses. I've come round to the general consensus this is Gil Kane and since "Sword" is the clearest word on the indicia I looked through Gil Kane's Sword Of The Atom but that's not a fantasy title. The annoying thing now is that this thread and the image I posted myself is what comes up when I research this on google.
  7. The answer lies in the indicia but it's impossible to read. Apart from what might be "barbarian" there is the faintest partial outlines of what looks like "Sword", "Denny O'Neil" and "Page 1" but it's so faint I'm having to fill in the blanks and imagine half the letters.
  8. I'm pretty sure it's Marvel and i don't think there was a Prince Valiant Marvel series then. My thought was a series called Sword Of Sorcery from the mid 1970's but cannot find this page in that run. I agree the art style does not look like Conan (and I don't think this is Gil Kane) but I thought I could see the outline of the word "barbarian" in the indicia at the top of the page so i thought it could be from a Conan back-up story or pin-up page but the writing is barely visible so I may be wrong.
  9. I believe it's a page 1 splash, possibly from a Conan story, and dates from the mid-1970's to early-1980's. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find it.
  10. They are 100% legit. The Ebay seller did a deal for the whole collection from the same source I bought mine from. That original source bought out the entire Warren archive of proofs following their bankruptcy in 1983 and held onto them until selling pieces recently. There is more than one proof of certain issues but the production proofs, with paste-ups etc, are one of one.
  11. Closing tonight. Thanks for looking !
  12. What is Color Guide Art ? Just like their original art counterpart color guides are a unique, one-of-a-kind, item and were a key part in the production process of comics until the early 2000's when the process became computerized. Color guides are a copy of the original art that was hand-painted by the colorist. There are sometimes hand-written notes from the artist or inker on mood or tone required, which shows how the finished comic artwork evolved through production. This color guide was then used in the color separation process to create the proofs. Some pages have color "codes" written on them to depict the actual color used for that part of the page or notes from the colorist to the separators. Others will either not have the codes or they will be on a separate overlay. The dimensions for colorist art are primarily 8.5" X 11".
