Hi - I've recently been working on completing a list of DC pence editions published from 1978 to 1981 , starting from the old guides at the STL comic forum , and researching ebay listings - I think the following should be the definitive list, please let me know if you spot any omissions though ; at the bottom of the I will mention the 1 comic I have as yet been unable to confirm from the list below

I have yet to confirm the existence of a pence edition of the Ghosts #66

Issues not published as pence editions generally fall into the following groupings: any issue over normal page count (DC Giant, 52pg, dollar format etc.); digests ; Treasuries (apart from the one above); War titles Pre-DC implosion ; Jonah Hex post-DC implosion (poor sales ??) ; The Warlord ( presumably because there was a UK War comic with the same Title )

The following issues should exist as pence variants because they don't fall into the above groups - but don't appear to:

Adventure Comics 467-472

Secrets Of Haunted House 15,16

Showcase 98,99

Teen Titans 53

Unexpected 196-199

Welcome Back Kotter 10

World of Krypton 1-3

I have some Pics - shared a lot with the STL forum , not sure if those particular pages are archived online, not too many war issues - I only have about 100 of the 838 issues though I intend to start putting some effort into collecting them shortly , at least with these I have the advantage of being in the UK so they're a lot easier to buy than they would be for US based collectors. I will put some pics. up soon

HI David

this needs to be an ongoing sticky thread - similar to the DC Universe variants lists in Copper

I could go through hundreds of archived pics of pence copies I've sold but it would take forever - but some I may be able to point out as we go along

Interestingly, I bought a collection with the Unexpected in from about 110-222 - there were many pence and cents issues mixed in, but oddly no.196-199 were missing completely

assume these were ND as we used to call it?

RE Warlord - I just last week sold a near complete run of Warlord, and yes, these were all cents copies until the dual pricing began

be helpful to put some dates around your list

there were early 1970s DC pence variants too

yes I must get around to picking up the few issues from 1971 as well, there's also a one-off from 1983 for the Superman Movie Special where the US/Can. Price is replaced with a US/UK price ; then you jump forward to the Bionicles comics which had a UK price on early issues , including some double Issues I don't think are to be found in the US editions. Most recently there's the Batman: Arkham Knight # 1 priced £2.99 which I suspect ( like the bionicles ) was a giveaway and the price is only there to infer a value

I don't think there's any others., happy to learn of more though

David, I compiled a list of ND issues from Marvel and DC from 1959 til they stopped in around 1982

PM me your email address if you want a copy to cross-reference against your list (thumbs u

Excellent work BTW (worship)

Here is the link to the Pence research matrix we had on the STL Comics gallery. Some of the pics can still be accessed via the Wayback Machine site link.

I might have images archived myself I can look for... still depresses me when I think of that site shutting down. :(
