Watching a book get away from you... how do you deal with it?

Man, I had two get away on eBay tonight that I was SURE I bid enough for. Aaugh!! :frustrated:

This one will take a week or two because I really wanted these. :facepalm:

I feel your pain, I lost out on this Laugh #66 . I had no idea it was going to get that high, someone REALLY wanted it more than everyone else bidding.

The guy who won the Laugh 66, laid down nice money for a Laugh 68, and got the B & V 40. Also a romance guy. He's a fierce bidder at these price levels. There's a common thread on these three books - they all stand a shot at being highest graded if slabbed. There's still a lot of room on these books - there are just so many issues between all the Archie titles.

On another note - just can't stand jscomics not putting up a back cover scan. Like it takes sooo much more time to do that. Blissard lists as many as he does each week, does it all by himself, and yet manages to scan both sides and provide very detailed descriptions, noting all defects. Comes from comic royalty yet he grinds it out like Harley Yee. Same thing with Buddy Saunders' son. It's refreshing to see some 2nd comics generation children stepping up.

So last night I bid on this book;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1948-FOX-GOLDEN-AGE-MARCH-CRIME-NN-BONDAGE-RULAH-CONGO-CRIME-NEVER-PAYS-/262599798610

Two other eBayer's outbid me;

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=262599798610&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

Then the seller relists the book with a BIN priced at the amount of the second highest bid;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1948-FOX-GOLDEN-AGE-MARCH-OF-CRIME-NN-BONDAGE-RULAH-CONGO-CRIME-NEVER-PAYS-/252527278828?

Could be the winner punked out of paying for some reason, and the seller, seeing the apparent market value, priced it as such, but I wonder why he/she/it didn't use the winning bid price? High bidder's information doesn't appear to make it look like he was a shill.

Anyway, to answer the OP's question, I got fed up. He can keep his restored book. I don't like the appearance of monkey business. If this was on the up-and-up, he shoulda offered it to the next highest bidder at his bid, and then to me at mine, if that didn't pan out.

I sent him a message about this; be interesting to see his response.

EDIT; Postscript

He got back to me and said that it wouldn't let him offer it to the second highest bidder, and he offered it to me at my bid, which I took. I'll be interested to see, in hand, what professional restoration looks like...:wink:
