Writing FRAGILE on boxes through USPS no longer free?

I generally write something like "Please do not bend, crush, or leave in rain..Thank you :-) " or something like that. Never the word fragile though. I'm hoping "Please" and "thank you" helps. The bending is about stuffing it into a small mailbox, I know that whatever happens happens on a truck, Envelopes will tend to be with other envelopes, I I think they're not so likely to damage eachother with 3-4 pieces of solid cardboard inside a stiff envelope. So far so good. 1500 packages delivered that way, none of them damaged by impact/crushing. One time I had some damage was a 3 a.m. packing job where I forgot one of my own taping steps.
