Don't believe everything you read. On Ebay alone, since the end of June, more than 7,000 items in my fairly inclusive comic search have sold for over $500.

total?

Crud - you could have told me sooner! I just gave away all my 30 long boxes of books to the local church.

That sounds about right. I took 15 long boxes of stuff to Long Beach for $1 ea, 20 for $15, and 50 for $25...ended up selling one long box. And there was decent stuff in there, Robin, Nightwing, Bats, WW, Supes...not 50 copies of X-Force #1.

The vast, vast, vast majority of stuff published since 1980 is worthless, but oh so much fun to read.

Interesting.

So you're suggesting that people will actually pay good money for what amounts to just a small stack of colored paper?

Yes, and they may pay you with a small stack of coloured paper called "money"!

I've been hitting a lot of auctions in Nevada/Arizona and California the last six weeks and I'm amazed what people will pay for what we call Drek. A short box will go for $70-100 more often than not. Almost any 12 cent book will bring $5-10.

Meanwhile, I buy US coins at less than face, and Gold Indians for well under melt.Got a gorgeous framed Olivia lithograph for $30. An unframed one sold last week for $450 on eBay.

On Sunday, I bought an album that had 23 Sacajawia dollars and 12 Presidential ones for $30. It's about timing. Bid increments were $5 until $30, then it jumped to $10, so the next bid would have been $40. At $100, it jumps to $25 increments, so being the person at $100 is strategic.

Another thing I've figured out is to pay attention to you are bidding against. I've done very well to buy/sell parts of the lots after the auction. They might have been interested in a different part of the lot.

By the way- the four storage unit auctions I attended were a waste of time. Lots of and too many buyers for my taste.

This Sunday is an auction of a long time music producers personal collection. I'm hoping to get a few scraps. Next week one of the best Hot Wheels collections ever assembled is up if you believe the hype.

wow, that article is just dumb. "baby boomers are unloading"... stuff accumulated during boomer childhoods and young adulthoods might actually be worth something. stuff accumulated during gen Yers childhoods..not so much.

but yes, chances are if it is from the last 40 years it isn't worth anything or is too beat up to be worth anything, I'll buy that. it's finding the 3 books on the table of drek that ARE worth something that is the fun!

I must have missed this, but why are all your posts in this format now?

ok, i see. harder to quote you.

No, not at all. It makes it less likely for the people who have a problem with me, but won't ignore what I say, to be bothered.

Besides, didn't you just learn how to quote like 2 months ago...? ;)

Flipping thru this recent article and look which collectible was deemed worthless! I for one am glad there is an article explaining to the average person that most books are essentially worthless.

Worthless Collectibles

It was a qualified "worthless"...and there are plenty of worthless comics...it did not mislead.

I found myself not enjoying being in the casino's as much as I expected, and enjoy hitting the various auctions. There is at least one a day, sometimes more. Estate scales galore and now that the weather is getting better, there are some great flea markets to explore.

I wish I had Barry's car collection.
