Need advice on extremely rare Batman comic

6 posts in this topic

Hey all, need advice on how to help this very rare 2nd print newsstand of Batman #457 (1st Tim Drake ROBIN).

Once thought a myth (

), there are currently only 8 known copies so I need to be careful about what I have done and by whom.

Please take a look at the photos and let me know how you would proceed. I've never had any books pressed or dry cleaned so any advice is greatly appreciated.

It's nigh impossible to say to what extent dry cleaning would remove the stains without having the book in hand.

The bulk of the work would have to be performed with absorene putty, which most pressers would not bother with as it is very time consuming. This is the sort of book that you would have to ship to a presser so he could examine the book in hand.

The top layer of the stains within the sun...some of it anyway, is accumulated dirt which can be removed with putty, which would lessen the severity of the stains.

But an oil/liquid based stain migrates into paper fiber, dry cleaning can only do so much.

IOW, dry cleaning will only lighten the severity of the stains.

The book looks like it would grade out around a 4.0 as is.

If dry cleaned and pressed, depending on the severity of the staining, expect a slabbed 5.0 to 6.5.
