After a lot of experimenting and reading recommendations on this forum I've landed on the 4 mil mylar with flap inside the BCW toploader for my non-slab favs. Sort of a mini-slab.

 

Agree with others, no tape, fold flap in. Also agree, 4 mil without using backing board = danger. I used to slip the backing board out and leave just book in, so you could see reverse side. However, I've started using the MicroChamber boards from Conservation Resources. They are a bit thinner than typical backing boards, but still add some additional support + the wonders of MicroChamber at same time.
