How to Make the New Forum, look like the OLD FORUM

The easiest and fastest way to make the NEW Forums look like the OLD Forums is to run a Browser Add-on, that modifies the appearance of the New Forum, and sets it to look like the Old Forum.

Because its done as a Browser plug-in, it happens on YOUR computer, in YOUR browser, and doesnt affect anyone else in any way.  It's basically a Custom Filter being applied on your browser, to the NEW Forum, AFTER its loaded...

At some future point in time I will update to a version 1.1 of these scripts to make things far more polished.  I just wanted to put out quick and dirty versions for anyone who just can't handle the new look, and needs something closer to what we had before.  This is a work in progress, but for those who feel like trying enjoy.

==========================

INSTRUCTIONS

==========================

1.) Based on your browser, install the respective Plug-in for customizing webpages.

2.) Download from this post, the corresponding v1.0 - NEW_FORUM_OLD.txt file for your browser, renaming it from .txt to .js when you download it.  (.js is a javascript file)

3.) Add the ---script to your installed plug-in and VOILA, the New Forum has a feel/flavour of the old.  This is a work in progress, and future updates to this thread will include scripts that customize the appearance further, cleaner, and closer to the old.

Browser Specifics

============================

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Internet Explorer (I think 8.0x+, but at least 9.0x+)

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1.) Download your plugin:  "trixIE"

https://svwh.dl.sourceforge.net/project/trixiewpf45/Trixie-0.1.3.0.zip

2.) IE Instructions:

-Once trixIE is downloaded, extract the .zip file to the location where you want it to be installed.  Run the extracted Trixie executable which registers the add-on in IE.

-There will be a ----script folder where you installed it (the same place where you ran the executable), delete the "GoogleDeLink.user.js" file already installed in that folder (as its not needed)

-Download the text file I am attaching to this post, and rename the file from its current "new_forum_old_IE.txt" to "new_forum_old.js" and place it in the ----script folder.

-Close all IE windows, relaunch and browse to the forum, TA-DA!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firefox

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.)  Install your Firefox Add-on

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

2.) Firefox Instructions:

- Once the Greasemonkey add-on is installed, from its icon choose "New User ---script"

- Fill out the Form that pops up.

            "Name": New Forum Cleaner

            "Namespace": cgc

            "Includes": https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/*

- Click ok, in the Window that pops up, highlight and erase all text so that it is completely empty.

- Open the attached file "new_forum_old_Firefox.txt" and copy and paste its contents into the open and empty Window, then click Save

- Make sure by clicking on greasemonkey's icon that there is a checkmark beside Enabled, and beside your new ----script "New Forum Cleaner"

-If both are checked, refresh the forums and TA-DA

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chrome

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.) Install your Chrome Add-on

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo?hl=en

(from this link, click "Add To Chrome" on the open page)

2.) Chrome Instructions

- Once the Tampermonkey add-on is installed from it's icon, choose Dashboard

- There is an icon on the Dashboard (to the left of installed userscripts) that looks like a piece of paper with a green plus on it, click it.

- In the window that opens, highlight and delete all text.

- Open the attached file "new_forum_old_Chrome.txt" and copy and paste its contents into the open and empty Window, then click Save (the icon that looks like a floppy disk)

- Click on "installed userscripts" (tampermonkey icon-> Dashboard to get back if its not available still), and make sure the iPhone style ON/OFF slider for "New Forum Cleaner" is set to on.

- Refresh the Forum and TA-DA

New Forum Made Old, Version 1.0 files...

---------------------------------------------------------

new_forum_old_CHROME.txt

new_forum_old_FIREFOX.txt

new_forum_old_IE.txt

Wow, you are a genius.  Is there any way to add back in the top bar (burgundy colored) that had the "my stuff" "user list" etc. ??  Also, could you post a few screen shots of threads, etc. That would be great.  And thanks for your knowledge and hard work.

Just keep in mind, using something like this might totally destroy some functionality. The only real way to visually go back is if they decide to go with actual skins. Hopefully they will and they will be user configured

+1 to user set skins.
