[lhcomics]

A lot of us check out Auction Zip trying to find that once in 2 year auction worth traveling to. In doing so sometimes you are forced to scroll down 100+ random links to really bad comic auctions. Seized assets seems to come to mind but more and more you see this and the first thing I think of is what poor soul just lost 3 days of his/her life listing all these comics of which 99% will never see a bid.

Designer Homes of Central Florida needs to stick to designing homes. I checked out 10+ random links all with 1990s comics and no bids. At least they are all boarded and wrapped.

It always bothers me how people with no clue about a collectible try and think they know what they're doing, or make any attempt at it.

I have two examples. I'm an avid vintage video game collector and have vast knowledge, especially about the Atari 2600. I have a few thousand duplicate games. I went to this flea market last spring. Guy has a Pitfall game. At the time I did not have my loose games here since I moved, but had a box and manual that needed a cartridge for me to sell complete. I asked him how much. He said $5, which of course was way overpriced for a flea market untested game. Since I had tons of loose games and had planned on bringing them down eventually, I asked him how much he would pay. He said 25 cents. I said, you pay 25 cents and sell it for $5? He then began cursing at me. I figured if he would pay a buck a piece, I'd sell him a few hundred. I asked him why he was cursing at me and he just kept going on. Told me I didn't know what I was talking about. After bickering for a couple of minutes, I decided he wasn't worth my time and I walked away. Haven't seen him since.

Second example was another flea market a few years ago outside Giants stadium called the Meadowlands Flea Market. Anyone from the area should be familiar with it. Guy was selling comic books. I looked through and saw a Marvel Tales in the #40s priced as if it was Amazing Spiderman. I explained to the guy he misidentified the comic and was charging too much. Again, another belligerent seller telling me I didn't know anything about comics. I had been collecting since 1984, so had a decent amount of knowledge, plus owned a store, was manager of another store, and spent a good deal selling on Ebay. Nevertheless, again not wanting to get into a fight, my wife sort of dragged me away.

So my thing is, stick with what you know. I understand people find things in the wild, but either throw it all up in one lot and hope for the best, or bring it to someone with knowledge who can sell it for you.
