Just wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the Marketplace over the last week or so.

I agree, but I'm buying so much lately that I really need to get my collection in order. I went through my "office pedigree" (recent purchases) and found books I forgot buying a month back.

Just no time lately, with all the weddings, resort escapes and kid activities. :tonofbricks:

Wow JC, you have my pity, cause I've been to a few resorts this summer and it's tough. ;)

Joking of course--life keeps us busy even during the summer when there should be more free time. Nature of the beast...

Mike, not that I don't like your idea about the PMs and not that I don't agree in a way....but I can never quite figure out how this would work well.. I didnt' want to mess up your thread.

The problem with accepting PMs over :takeit:, seems to be more a matter of someone being disgruntled as to who actually won some of the bargains.

Let's say I send you a PM, and you are away, you don't answer, cause you don't sleep with your computer...and in the middle of the night, someone else posts an I'll take it?

The I'll take it person doesn't even know you have a pending PM and thinks they won.

So, wouldn't a pending PM post on the thread be needed, instead of just an anonymous PM? and wouldn't you need a time limit? and then you have the problem of people who don't want to post at all? So, you have someone less honest than you are...who says they got a phantom PM, because they have seller's regret...and says an anonymous person sent one...

It kind of goes on and on...

Personally, I'd like to see some kind of Time Out PM Icon with a time limit Gremlin...but I just can't quite figure out the logistics. We'd need something so there are not fights. Some people are not quite as easy going as others.

skypinkblu -

It works really well - you just have to sometimes (rarely) withstand the wrath of a few of the hotheads around here. And, if that is how they're going to act, then maybe you're better off not having done business with them in the first place.

There are actually a few people around here that I wouldn't sell to even if they posted the :takeit: - kinda' the same thing in reverse. It isn't over until the seller accepts the offer, even if it was the asking price.

Dunno...I've been doing it this way for the 6+ years I've been selling on the boards and it's never been a problem. (shrug)

I put that comment in my thread to reinforce what BB13 was saying in his thread, which is spelling it out a little more clearly than my usual "Please PM me or hit the :takeit: to reserve books." As Mike (lizards) notes, there is no deal until the seller confirms with the buyer and accepts their offer, even if it was at the asking price. So yeah, there could be situations where a potential buyer posts the :takeit: in the thread but the book was already sold via PM (or the seller is working out details with a buyer) but the seller decides how they want to run/manage their listings.

For a while I thought this was crapp, just another loophole to max profits and curry favor. However, after having a few sales threads I understand the policy and I am adopting it myself. It's not as much trouble as I thought, and can smooth out transactions, avoiding that rushed feeling . The time allows for better communication and a higher level of customer service...but what do i know ? :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah:

Didn't you post a couple of soft porn pics lately?

Yeah, the nerds love that stuff. lol

And I'm not complaining about the porn comics or the dateless losers who buy it, just making an observation.

Speaking of observations, can Forumites please stop encouraging sellers who don't conform to either the spirit or letter of the rules? It's bad enough when we get threads of books with no scans, grades or prices, but to have people sending pms and asking for scans in these threads really isn't helping the community police itself.

Okay, rant over.

Just a bit of friendly advice to sellers with a list of books they want to gauge interest on; try putting it in this thread. Use the resultant pms to post books in the marketplace.

Hey, the forum thinktank asked us to cease and desist policing the Marketplace, so we're just giving them what they want.

Once true anarchy sets in, it should be a fun show.

Lotsa smut on the boards lately - the pervs must be breaking out the lotion and klennex.

And the pompous, sanctimonious martinets must be perching atop their high horses, breaking out the same smug, deliberately inflammatory, attention - seeking judgements for the umpteenth time...
