many thanks to monstro for his declaration regarding others' intentions. we don't have enough posters who feel comfortable speaking for people they don't know from Adam, so that's good to see

You mean like when you told me I must be doing pilates when I assumed his question appeared innocent?

Going back to my exercise class today. We got a new pilates machine to really stretch the limbs.

We call it "The Presser." :insane:

I don't know who PEP is and I don't know if he has a history of speaking out against pressing.

But the question "How would you know if it was pressed?" doesn't seem so threatening to me. The response on the other hand,

"Because I don't know who you are, I'm going to ignore your question even if you are about to buy every book I have ever wished to sell in my entire life."

After reading this thread first I was expecting PEP's comment to be much worse.

I just saw this.....are you kidding me??? lol

Yea it was an honest question and this guy had to respond like that to me? I thought he was joking around and that's why I posted it again.

Someone needs to get some thicker skin.....lol

And if you ask my friend universal I have no clue about pressing, I PM'd him over pressing a few weeks ago. Sorry guys but I'm not a huge comic geek like some on here, I dont know how to grade/press/etc.

Hilarious.

Oh and the reason I asked was because the seller kept posting (PRESSED) and I had wondered if CGC would display (PRESSED) on the label. I havent gone in his for sale thread since then and really dont remember which thread it was.

Oh one more thing, if you have a problem with something I said just PM me and we can work things out. Clear?

I guess all the people giving you craap in this thread are going to ignore your post.

I won't ignore it. Just like I won't ignore you inserting yourself in as the staunch defender of anti-pressers and those accused of being anti-pressing. What a joke. Raw books rest easier tonight, safer in their mylar homes because of the yeoman's work that you are doing, sir. (thumbs u

Taking PEP's statements at face value, it looks like he walked into a buzzsaw. I'm amazed that someone that has been on the boards as long as he has would not know anything about pressing, disclosure or whether "CGC would put (PRESSED) on the label." But stranger things have happened. So I apologize to PEP for imputing an agenda upon him that apparently was incorrect, and suggesting that his attempts at finding information (that should have been clear by looking at the labels of the books in question) were threadcrapping.

Is this a non-apology apology, counselor? :baiting:

I take PEP at his word and think the whole situation was a perfect storm of sorts. A very interesting case study in communication to say the least. I'll have to say I was on the boards for a while until I became educated on what pressing was and the brouhahas associated with it (maybe it was because seemingly every thread about it was too long to read and I succumbed to cultural ADD ).

I think this is the first time I've ever read this thread & is probably therefore also the first time I've ever posted in it.

You guys are a riot.

When selling comics I am not involved in a business matter nor do I consider those who buy from me to be my customers or clients. This is true even if the comic I'm selling is many thousands of dollars.

Selling comics is part of my hobby. For me, those who buy from me are other hobbyists, regardless of how they may view themselves.

I love my hobby. My hobby is about a boy & his comic books. No person, incident, set of facts, or circumstance can in any way diminish my affection for my hobby. Nothing can come between a boy & his comics.

& so, if I sell nothing, I don't care. While I may be initially annoyed if I realize a massive loss, ultimately I am indifferent.

I press books to experiment with the results to the books' appearance & to experiment with the amount of money I can win upon the eventual sale, if ever, of the books.

I am pleased if a book sells for more than expected. I am pleased if a book sells for a dollar. I have gotten very excited over selling a dollar book. Comics thrill me.

I disclose on the Boards because the Forums demand I do so; at least in my mind they do.

I will continue to disclose. I don't want to irritate the Boards.

On the other hand, I know that pressing and in fact disclosing can irritate the Boards as well.

While I understand that irritating the Boards may be undesirable, I also admit that irritating the Boards can be another fun aspect of my comic book hobby.

In short, I am fearless & will do what I think is right as I see fit.

Press em all :headbang:

Hey PEP, I got word via PM from a very good friend that you're a nice guy.

I thought my response to you was pretty damn funny myself.

I'm Bill. Let me know if you need me to mop-up any problems you may have related to anything at all -- I'll take care of it for you, no worries -- & nice to meet you, PEP

Did I nail it yet?

Yep...you nailed it. (thumbs u

Actually, he didn't nail it. I have no axe to grind with the seller. Look at the books - they speak for themselves.

And I am amazed that seven words can generate soooooo much fanfare around here, lol

How do the books speak for themselves? David, are you telling me that you've mastered the art of detecting pressing to the level that you can detect it through a 700 pixel wide internet scan?

You are the man. (worship)

But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty and so is your head.

They're all pressed, and they're all being sold without any disclosure. Period. End of discussion.

They might all be pressed - might not. I suppose only the seller and a potential customer that wants to ask will know. You are neither of those, and your post in the sales thread was not a legitimate question. It was an azz backward or chikin way of posting what you finally posted above. You wanted to tell everyone that they are all pressed and being sold without disclosure. Neither of which you have any proof of.

Assume that , maybe, they all have been pressed. Even at that point, they are only being listed without pro-active disclosure. That doesn't mean proactive disclosure isn't taking place before any sales are finalized. It definitely does't mean that disclosure doesn't take place if a buyer pro-actively shows concern. (takes responsibility for themselves and asks).

It was intended to be thread crappping, and uncalled for. Even monstro's pissant attempt at being the grammar police was nothing more then thread crappping. He doesn't like pressing so he thought he found a reason to belittle someone he doesn't like because they don't share his view on pressing.

If you feel like you really need to be the board watchdog over pressing, then take it to PM, and stay out of the threads.

lol Absolutely not true.

I'm beginning to think sellers of pressed books are paranoid.

Some of them are and I don't blame them as evidenced by the treatment they have received over the past few days.
