General discussion thread - keep the other threads clean

Isn't the nature of giving away free stuff, exploitation? Thats why I see it as a non issue and would really like someone to give me a five bullet point summary about what this 10 people coupe thing is.

- people offer books for free to the participants in the thread (first to claim gets them). There are no fixed rules about the value of what is offered

- the person who claims then has to put up their own offer

- in the past, some very generous offers have been claimed, with the boardie who claimed them following up with junk books (hence "junk donkey").

- this caused lots of resentment. Several people became disillusioned and stopped participating in the thread.

- (very) recently, the thread rules were changed to try to mitigate this problem. 10 people voted against the rule change - the inference being that these are the "junk donkeys" who will now be prevented from scooping up the good offers and not reciprocating appropriately.

I could blindly guess culprits

I have to admit, I don't care for the new rule - one reason (a small one) that I won't participate.

Basically, when someone takes my offering, I want to get it out right away, not be forced to wait three days. I think if someone can't put up an offering people want after, I dunno, a week or so, then maybe it is time to put up a $25 Amazon gift card or something.

But my points are moot, as I am a non-participant.

Good luck, I do hope things go well for everybody in there.

The only problem with that is I could see people basically claiming high dollar items then saying, hey here is $25 for it. It is a bit too close to buying whatever you want for $25. I have never been a fan of people posting gift cards but that is just me

No talking about value for PIF items.

I agree, hence why there should never be money offered in exchange for them! :baiting:

Gift cards aren't money, though. If you get them a gift card/cert from a comic shop, then they have to buy comics.

Besides, that was only one suggestion. But again, I don't participate, so my points are moot.

:)

But the new rules are designed to speed up the process, and ensure that {IF offerings are worthwhile and snapped up quick. i.e get rid of the Junk Donkeys or force them to change their ways.

Other than Dr. Wiggles and his burro, PIF has actually been flying along faster than usual with lots of activity.

Hey, I am only offering my opinion, and it isn't a popular one - I knew that already.

Again, it's all moot, because I don't participate.

I guess I should shut up about it then, eh?

;)

No, your opinion is welcome, though it does confound me a bit. You were extremely vocal about changing the junk donkey antics. We made a change, and it is working as best as it can to prevent the past actions. Is that not what you wanted?

I like giving a gift card as an option, be it to amazon.com or another relevant vendor. I'd hope the person offering a gift card would be conscientious enough to offer a gift card that is in line with what they just claimed. But we all know that isn't often a realistic expectation, or we wouldn't have been having these discussions to fix the holes in the PIF thread to begin with.

But not pornographic, right?

I guess my opinion is one that, if its harmful to others it shouldn't be posted.

Are drawings of naked people harmful? I don't think so. (unless its harmful, i.e. gross animal stuff or children related)

Are naked pictures of people harmful? An argument could be made.

But by saying you have to be 18 or older to contribute doesn't that already solve the problem? (shrug)
