Tape

6 posts in this topic

Ok, say you've got a GA comic with a piece of tape of the spine.

Can you just pull off the tape, assuming you do it very carefully? I've had luck pulling tape off other things like magazines without any noticable effect.

And even if it does leave a tape-pull, would that still be preferable to an old piece of tape?

I assumed he meant when the tape is old, and already starting to come off, and just needs a little help. I've had a few comics like that over the years. smirk.gif

If however the tape is still strongly attached then don't try it yourself or you'll be sorry.

Tape = you b screwed.

Over the years I've had four of five people that have worked for me

and the absolute first lesson they have ever recieved is in the proper

handling of someone else's comics. REMOVE all tape from the polybag.

Don't just open it.

As for older cello tape from the 60's and 70's, if it is very brittle and

all but falling off, and you are trying to keep the tape itself from doing

additional damage to the book, try a cheap hairdryer on the area to see

if any of the adhesive itself is left in a condition that will soften up when

heat is applied. When I was a kid I taped up quite a few of my Our Gang's

with the left over Christmas tape my mother always bought. Now days

when I pull them out, the cello tape has yellowed and become brittle,

but occasionally will come loose with just a few minutes of applied heat.
