poll-people who either collect GA or would if they could afford it.  The idea here is to see if younger folks collect GA, ie that the collecting of GA books will be self sustaining, not just a product of nostalgia that will die out eventually.

the only real GA I collect is associated with my parachute cover collection.  Every time I buy GA I recoil at the cost, so needless to say, my parachute cover collection will never be completed.

Of course, still early in the polling, but for me it's a little concerning that there hasn't been anyone below 34 yet.  I'm 34 now and since my late teens I've preferred golden age to anything else.  Unfortunately, my pocketbook doesn't agree with me.  :flipbait:

I'm someone else who would've enjoyed collecting GA, under different conditions.

In the UK, and as a kid in the 70s, I didn't know of any dealers who specialised in the Age, and the stories I read in DC 100 pagers seemed completely unattainable here; just a pipe dream.  Later on, as a high grade collector, the books were way too expensive and still too elusive for me to put together an extensive collection, although at one point I did have a few low grade Police Comics issues, which I'd picked up for the Cole Plastic Man stories.

Eventually, I settled for having the much cheaper DC Archive hardcovers.

I do not think you will see a large 18-25 response simply because I do not believe there to be a large portion of users of this board that figure into that demographic.  On top of that who is to say that they are in comics general?  Perhaps this would be better served had it been written in the Golden Age section of the boards.  That's where we would find the age of the board members who actively pursue GA books.

Comics General is probably not the best place to get results.

Been collecting GA since I was 30, now 39.

I think this would be a better question - "when did you start collecting GA ?"

Otherwise - this is just another poll to see how old you are.

And I agree with Buzzetta, should be posted in the GA forum, not CG.

No because the intent of the poll is to see if comics as a whole have long term collectible value as opposed to dying out with nostalgia.  And it looks like at least 96% of GA collectors were not alive when the books came out.

would there be any correlation to another type of collecting-- say antique cars? maybe you work your way towards GA collecting after many years with other books. Seems like many on here have described completing some collecting goal and then changing focus to another, often times GA or some aspect of GA like GGA or bondage etc.

PS-- you might want to expand your poll to include a spot for those of us who do not collect GA currently

What you're looking at with this GA poll is not comparable to the future of comics for many reasons. Plus, lots of the GA collectors don't (or rarely) read CG, so you'll be missing lots of people who should be responding.

I actually read my comics, so I've never had any interest in GA.

I read my comics too even the GA ones I pick up on the rare occasion they are affordable.  I feel like most of the collectors on the GA section have been collecting when GA were more attainable.    Seeing what I cannot ever accomplish doesn't make me want to hang around the GA forum.  I don't mind the question here but honestly, not sure where it is going.  We did have a young under 18 board member here that collected GA books.  I will not go into his tragic ending here.  Honestly, it is financially attainable for the select few at this day and age..  That is how I feel.

You would get better results by asking the age of those collecting Golden Age books in the Golden Age section.  You would get to see a higher volume of quantity and get the answers you are looking for.
