Oh well. maybe Mitch could chime in - but I think he had it available for less than hammer price at his booth at comic con in the summer. It is a fairly large piece of art and memorable if you were collecting during that period. Edited December 2, 2017 by Panelfan1

Mr. Machismo
Anyone here get the AXM Colossus cover? Site or internet glitched out for me. Loved that cover as a kid. Anyhow, put on a tracking bid on another piece and won it. So that was a nice surprise

For that kind of money you can have a whole weekend at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch and leave with as many Polaroids from this angle as you can carry...along with memories to last a lifetime....or so I have been told. Some other random thoughts: $44,000 for the Barks Duck painting - I genuinely have no idea if this is a good or bad result. Thoughts? $26,361 for that James Jean painting did pretty well I thought...seem to recall this one not getting much love in the past. $22,694 for the Bissette/Yeates Swamp Thing strikes me as nutty, even if it is from an early Moore issue. $19,750 for the Byrne Man of Steel seems very healthy to me. $15,277 for the Geiger Hulk #337 cover is a shocker to me. Nice cover, but, as another friend remarked, "who is Steve Geiger???" Exactly!! $9,766 for the Romita ASM #117 title splash - didn't this one sell in the (mid?) teens not long ago? $8,100 for the Anacleto Warlord of Mars cover...wow. Cool cover (if you're into soft porn), but...wow. $5,550 for the Grell Warlord #39 cover - seems low to me, but, explainable by my longstanding and more-often-than-not-proved-empirically-correct observation that more ink on the page does more better at auction, all other things (image/content/historical importance) being equal (but, like the Laffer Curve, up to a point - obviously there's a tipping point). This one just didn't have a lot of black on the page. $3,700 for the Frank-ly hideous Frank Miller Elektra illustration. Where did this one sell in the primary market? Much higher I would think... $3,622 for the Gulacy MOKF #25 page. Seems very low to me after a friend recently told me about all these Gulacy MOKF pages that have sold privately for 5-figures, especially given the comparable/superb action content of this page. $2,600 for the Miller/Janson DD #190 Elektra origin page. I'm shocked by this one - no costumes, but, this is a VERY memorable page from the Elektra origin sequence and that price just seems way low. I might have been tempted to bid had I known it was going to go this cheaply. $1,100 for the Gonzalez Vampi #24 splash. This was my consignment and someone got a bargain at my expense. Gonzalez panel pages are regularly selling for $1800-$2200 these days; this splash sold for less than half of FMV. I have the worst luck at auction... I would like to hear your, or anyone's thoughts on the ASM McFarlane piece. Do you think the stat effected the price or was it around FMV?

I thought the same thing about the BWS Kull price Gene. Seemed like a relatively low price, even though it was a weird consignment, being very early unpublished BWS, and Kull, or sort of Conan, but not really... Pretty sure the seller would have made much more if broken up, but like I said, hard to gauge this one. I thought with a few exceptions, prices were a little on the light side this auction. I was talking to some friends last night, and while the best stuff will always do very well no matter the timing, the rest struggles a little more late in the year around the holidays. Probably a good time to be a buyer for anything less that prime A grade material, but not so great for a seller. Anyone have anecdotal or direct evidence to support this theory? It went for just 20% less than the marker faded title splash that just sold in heritage. That's pretty good for a roughly 1/3 splash. Scott My thoughts exactly prices were slightly low for the good stuff, the best stuff almost always does well. Every year I tell myself to save a bunch of money for auctions that fall after thanksgiving and before new years(I have yet to be successful). Year in year out the best auction deals of the year can be had around this time.

SquareChaos
Is this the second time that Miller Elektra was up, or was there just one similar to it up quite recently? I could probably find the thread if I wasn't trying to work and monitor the forums with half a mind, but I remember having a discussion about how harsh the aesthetics were on it and pondering the possibility that there is an actual market for it outside of being signed 'Miller'... and how long could that last. All these pieces have been in my collection for 15-25 years, and I rarely sell or trade my good stuff, so don't miss out on your opportunity to lock it in your vault for the next quarter century. Up for auction is the 2nd best Brian Bolland cover from the 1st ever Robin series. There were only 5 issues and this is the only one that give a full good look at Robin's then new costume: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1213832 Next up is a Bloom County Sunday with Opus in every panel (a foot counts in the last one, right?). You don't see many of these show up these days. BTW, this one is signed by creator Berkeley Breathed when he was at a bookstore in Brentwood, California, several years back: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1213838 Also available, is a great montage splash page of Green Arrow by the highly underrated Trevor Von Eeden, co-creator of Black Lightning, this splash features to large images of Oliver Queen in full classic Green Arrow costume. I've only ever seen two other Von Eeden Green Arrow splashes, and one is in my collection and the other Romitaman sold for around $2500. Don't know why DC hasn't put out a trade of all these great 80's Arrow stories from Detective, Wolrd's Finest and the Green Arrow mini-series but they should: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1213837 This year is the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the Batman: Animated Series by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini et al. Back when Bruce was working on the designs of the characters, he recruited a few talented comic artists to help contribute to the look of the show. As many know, Mike Mignola's Mr. Freeze design was used and loved by all, and Kevin Nowlan sent in many great designs that were also used, including, Man-Bat and Killer Croc. https://13thdimension.com/kevin-nowlan-lifts-the-cowl-on-his-batman-animated-designs/ I picked up this great Batman illustration of Batman that he did for the show for Scott Dunbier, back when he was a dealer and have had it ever since, until now: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1213833 And lastly, up for auction is a tight finished prelim by DREW STRUZAN, of this famous 1970's Thought Factory Batman poster, one of the early first realistic depiction of Batman. I'm many of you, like me, had this hanging on your wall when you were young. This is from one of Struzan's first assignments and from what I've been told, the final painted posters have never been seen, and that Drew does not have them: http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/item.asp?back=%2FComicTrack%2FAuctions%2Fauctions_first.asp&id=1213834 Thanks for checking them out and good luck to everyone tonight. There's a few pieces I'm hunting as well. Hey Kevin..i bought your Bolland Robin cover...felt it went cheap so i'm glad to help you make a sale buddy. (i bought a few other bigger pieces i felt went under the radar, so all in all a good night)

Oh, there's been a few public sales already of Byrne non-X-Men panel pages over $10K. Most recently, a very nice MTU page, and I do recall a few IF panel pages that sold north of 10k, possibly from issue 14 or 15?

That price wasn't insane at all. A/A+ panel pages from IF 12 and 14 have sold over $10k in the past few years - both publicly and privately. I was the consignor of that page, and yes I was pleasantly somewhat surprised at the result but strong Byrne IF pages have been climbing in value over the past year or so. And again I am biased, but the page I consigned was really strong content-wise imo.....fight page with a desirable villain, IF and villain in every panel and probably one of the most iconic images in the entire run as the last panel. And yes, there have been many sales of non-X-men Byrne pages that have gone over $10k - again, both publicly and privately. Most recently, just off the top of my head, that Count Nefaria Byrne/Marcos Avengers page went for $15k, the Spidey/Sonya Marvel Team-Up page in Heritage recently went for the same amount I believe, and there are a number of Byrne FF pages that have sold over $10k in Heritage, Clink, CConnect, and especially privately. I can tell you that if the right page were to come up from Byrne's Avengers run (ideally 184, 191 and especially 189), I would definitely pay over $10k.....that stuff just doesn't come up. I own a Byrne IF page that cleared 5-figures at auction a few years ago. I know of other non-UXM Byrne pages that have cleared that hurdle as well (both public & private sales). I actually didn't even blink twice over this IF page result. That's the OA market these days. Edited December 2, 2017 by delekkerste
