Agree the sigs looked pretty bad. I'm no "expert authenticator", but I've seen a lot of Jim Lee sigs, and those looked especially bad to me... The McFarlane also looked off.

Sad state of affairs for sure. Sometimes it takes a well-publicized "scam" to really highlight the downfalls of a sig "authentication" service, and the inherent limitations of it. I am 100% supportive of CGC never getting into this.

I am not a signature specialist (believe neither are most ppl in this thread who says that the signatures are forged). I could stand corrected but the artists only said that the sketches were not there’s but I don’t remember seeing any of them saying that’s their signatures were not theirs. Actually artists will sign blank sketch copies - maybe not 20 but if you ask for 1 - you might get it. You will find signed blank sketch forms on eBay from time to time - but sure those are forged as well incl those on eBay for sale and recently sold.

Neither are a lot of the people holding themselves out to be "specialists"

To believe that Liefeld actually signed those fake sketches, not sketch covers...these were on art board, you'd have to believe one of two things: 1) That Liefeld saw an obvious fake sketch in front of him and decided to sign his name just below and away from image, or 2) That Liefeld was presented with a blank artboard and being handed it decided to sign it down along the margins allowing for something to be drawn on it later by someone who isn't HIM.

The example of blank sketch covers is an improper analogy as those are comics that a creator is signing, something they already had a hand in creating, with their work inside....and many will either sign directly in the middle of the sketch image or refuse to sign in blank.

And, finally, don't lump eye-witnessed signatures with Ouija Board Soothsayer Dart Board Toss guesses after the fact and without first hand corroboration that this particular piece was actually signed by the person in question and witnessed by a disinterested party.
