Can some one please refresh my possibly failing memory and remind me how May 3, 1938 is the accepted release date of Action #1.  Thanks!

The release date has been sited from April 18th to May 3. I have only seen one Action Comics #1 with an arrival date (that I recall) and it was a May 1938 date many years ago but that doesn’t mean much since I’ve seen a full month difference on GA comics arrival dates on some books.

I figured if I posted it April 18 someone might argue that might be to early but if I waited until the May 3 date to note it I could say with some degree of confidence having seen a May arrival date in the past that the book was on the newsstands by then.

Release dates were never an exact science since they varied by your location and who you bought books from. Growing up my local 7-11 had some books in weeks earlier or later than other newsstands I bought books from. Also Los Angeles and San Diego had a full month difference at times in both directions when I traveled with family.

The point of the thread was to note the significance of the books release and a close approximation of its release and not an exact date.

I have a 1967 RS with the 327. My cousins are currently bringing it back (some light rust issues in back panel, etc.) and they are fun to drive as a weekend car but I’ll never use it again to commute to work. There is something to be said for new cars and the advances in technology.

That said putting anything from the 396 and up in those make them fine looking beasts to drive. I bet you guys have a lot of fun driving them around.

mine is a 4 speed and like you say with 4.11 gears going down the freeway at 60 screaming is not all that fun anymore. 3 mile to a gallon hurts but they sound great.

I wanted to post something on Superman’s powers that I read recently but cant find now, it gave the chronology of early powers (1938-1940) covering the comic books, comic strips, cartoons, and radio show. Can anyone point me to this?
