SD Comic-Con Panel Discussion On Community Issues - Input Solicited

299 posts in this topic

He's current looking for recommendations for an MP3 recorder to record some of this year's panels himself...

Since most of the conference rooms are miked, there's usually a sound mixing board towards the back or side. It's pretty simple to get the audio feed from the mixer into a recording device (or even a notebook computer.)

This wouldn't necessarily get a good signal from people who shout out their questions, but it would clearly record the panelists.

THis would seem the way to go to me. All you'd have to do is have the panelists quickly recap questions as they're asked so that anyone listening to the recording later would know what's going on.

I hope that you don't equivocate at the end Steve about participating. Your presence will contribute significantly to the discussion.

Sounds like he's already setting the stage...

Jim,

You've got to remember Steve is not just an individual. He is the President of a division of a large company.

As such,he needs to tow the company line and not be involved in something that can reflect badly on the company. You work for a rather large company that tends to look poorly upon its workers publicly disagreeing with its stated policies, don't you?Tell me you've never had to bite your tongue over what you percieved to be a wrong policy decision.

I have no idea how Steve really feels about this whole Freisen thing, but I know what his bosses expect from him.

So,I take that as a no thank you to my offer of help?

What, you want me to fly you out there? They are not even flying ME out there! makepoint.gif

Just turn it into a Vegas trip.

You can be my bodyguard at the con. headbang.gif

Boy,oh boy. I guess bluenote was right after all. People do forget when they owe you a favor.

Need I remind you of that night at the Ground Round where after numerous rounds of Long Island Ice Teas, you said you were going to blow off Law School and open your own comic shop. I talked you out of it,remember?

Hows about when I told you to buy those Bronze Age books instead of the Silver Age original artwork, huh? Forgot all about that too,I bet.

Now,I was not asking for a piece of your law practice, just an all expense paid trip to SD,with a three or four day stopover in Vegas.Maybe a string of polaponies when we got back.

What do you offer me? A job as your bodyguard?. Yeah, being bodyguard to the guy who pisses off the CIA

on a regular basis would be a great career move for me.

Just when you think you know someone, you find out he's just anoter pawnbroker in an Armani suit.

I know my suggestion does not hold much value here but i would love to see STAN LEE on the panel to talk about the current state of the comic companies and how he sees the ouitlook ahead.

Jim, so... when are you going to cross the pond and join us at a con? We may have disagreed about a few (well.. maybe alot) of issues here on the boards, but I'd still like to meet you sometime. C'mon over.

Trust me...I'd love to meet up at one of these dinners and talk about some of these issues, and comics in general, over some beers.

But San Diego is coming at the absolute worst time this year as I'll be knee deep in changing duty assignments. And next year will be bad as well as I'll be in Korea for the year. Looks like the soonest I'll be able to meet up at one of these cons is 2007... frown.gif

I've got one daughter entering college this fall, and another in three years. I have a big fat mortgage. I've got car payments and a 401K that needs a real boost. So at the age of 50 I have to reinvent myself once again. I've had my slowest first half of a year in 28 years in the business, after working hard to establish myself and provide good service to my clients. Right now I'm on pace to make about half of what I made last year. And trust me, I've been busting a hump to drum up business.

Yea, but Bob sells comic books. You've got nothing on him. insane.gif

I am, of course, very cognizant of this fact. I've made it clear to Steve that, if he needs to do so, he can appear in his own personal capacity and I will ensure the audience is very clear on that. I routinely arrange for government attorneys to appear on panel discussions with me and, of course, they always make the caveat that they do not speak for or seek to bind their respective agency.

In any event, I have full confidence in Steve that he knows where the line is to be drawn, and how to handle himself. Nor do I have any intent to corner him into an uncomfortable position on any matter or issue.

Hey, I never drank Long Island Ice Teas!!!!

Hmm, I think I do remember that conversation. Geez, so you were the one who made me suffer for three years! 893whatthe.gif

Not sure whether I should thank you or hunt you down like the dog ... ahem, I am getting off track here. poke2.gif

Hows about when I told you to buy those Bronze Age books instead of the Silver Age original artwork, huh? Forgot all about that too,I bet.

Now for that I might decide to sue you given you interfered with my economic mobility! I still have those darn bronze age books. Christo_pull_hair.gif

I'll be watching in between oogling Porn Stars who have brought a well needed boost to the atmosphere of the SD Comic Con.

Actually, I was considering inviting one of them to be on the panel.

At least then I would ensure people attend! 27_laughing.gif

Good idea. crazy.gif I'm sure we'll really impress her with all of our comic book talk. Problem is though, when we start up with the resto talk and our mostly negative attitude about it, well..... she may feel awkward about her own artificial enhancements.

I feel at that point a demonstration on her part will clarify any misconceptions on ours... thumbsup2.gif
