The encapsulation guarantees the 'moment in time'  grade on the label. Without encapsulation the grade becomes a moving target as the book is handled. Also, the label itself needs to be encapsulated, otherwise, the book and/or label can be switched.  In summary, in answer to your question, NO.

But there's no reason you can't take it out of the slab yourself after you get it back from CGC.  That is very common, and done by many customers.  Make sure you watch a video on how to do it to keep from damaging the comic.
