Popular Post Readcomix
Finally! After a year of discussions, I have landed an original owner Silver Age collection. The gentleman, a retired hedge fund guy, certainly didn't need the money, so he took his time considering his sons' attachment, if any, to the books. Today, I acquired almost everything he had left from his childhood -- 79 books. He wound up keeping for his son Marvel Tales #1&2 and Sgt Fury annual #1. He also kept a handful of the Dell war title "Combat," and he could not locate his Atom #1. Here's everything else, as he brought it to our meeting at the local library. (He's from about an hour away, but he and his wife like the restaurants in our village.) As I walked in, he was showing his Daredevil #1 to a couple guys playing chess! He clearly still enjoys his memories of the characters, likes the Marvel movies, can even remember the books he donated to a cystic fibrosis fundraiser 40 years ago (ASM from #4 to the teens, FF from 12 to the 20's). I bought the last 79 today. Larryw7, badback83, nepatkm and 6 others
Popular Post Readcomix
The books in his collection are largely though not 100% characterized by clear, well-placed date stamps, and/or his initials "M.R." In blue ink in the lower right margin area of the splash pages. If you have some SA Marvel with this "M.R." Initialing, you likely have a piece of this collection too. it originates from western Connecticut. It's part of the Marvel Remastered books (i.e. McFarlane's Venom cover). This is one of Jim Lee's Remastered. As of right now there are three covers...X-Men Blue, X-Men Gold, and Astonishing X-Men (all 1:1000). ***The Jim Lee trading card covers are a different thing.
