AQUAMAN #40

Jim Aparo’s first pro work at DC and on a character he would be closely associated with second to Batman.

Also, the beginning of the Quest For Mera multi-issue storyline.

This book was professionally pressed.

No spine stress, sharp corners, glossy, bright inks, white back cover and pages.

Only thing maybe holding it back from a 9.4 is a very slight 1” indent in the bottom left corner area of the front cover, about a 1/2” away and parallel to the spine. It’s very slight, you see it when you tilt it in the light.

Sorry about no open cover photos.  The covers didn’t want to naturally lay open and I didn’t want to force them

AQUAMAN #42

2nd appearance of Black Manta. ‘Cause that’s a thing now.

Undisputed awesome cover.

A cracked-out CGC blue label 9.0 off-white pages. Blue label included with the book.

Flat with just a couple of barely stress marks. Pretty sharp corners and great cover wrap.  Colors pop. Intially it actually looks it could actually grade higher.

But it has what looks like slight foxing along the spine edge of the back cover and a touch of it on the bottom right corner of the front cover. There’s age toning to the bottom edges inside the book that’s more of an orange hue than they typical tan.

I assume this knocked it down to 9.0. Bought this about 5 years ago, don’t know if CGC was in a loose, tight or just-right phase. Perhaps this defect would knock it down lower, but even 8.0/8.5s are selling for decent amounts.

Gonna say it’s a soft

Oops, you’re right. Read the list wrong. The open spot is for #25 not #45.

I actually have a copy of #25 that I held back because it was one of the presser-potential books. I may go ahead and list it anyway.

And yes, I have a plus-size cat. That’s no modern box lid, that a CGC box lid she’s filling up. Lol!

Yeah - #25 has been a bugaboo to find.  I almost caught one once, but when I checked the trap, it had chewed its own leg off to escape.

Did you ever see the "Fiesta Kitty" one pager from Fat Freddie's Cat?

No, haven’t seen that.

Had a couple of the What’s Michael books when I was going to the LCS as a teen.

I spent about 20 minutes trying to find it on the internets - dangit.  It would probably take me three days to find it in the Comic Cavern.  I'll see what I can do, but no promises.

Thank you.

That’s one of the books that made me hesitate on selling these as I know I’ll never get it back.

But I’m missing so many of the big books for this character unless I have a rich, soon-to-depart relative I don’t know about I’m never finish this run anyway.

AQUAMAN #44

Really nice sold copy with great wrap alignment and colors.

Some spine stresses and some minuscule bindery chipping along the bottom edge of the back cover. Just the slightest wear to corner tips of covers.

There is some color chipping along the spine, otherwise this would be a NM- 9.2. Overall, I’ll call it a solid

AQUAMAN #45

A cracked-out CGC blue label 9.4 cream to off-white pages. Blue label comes with the book.

Interesting that CGC denoted the pages being crm-ow when there’s other CGC books listed here that have ow-wt designations but the age toning is much more severe. This looks to have the beginnings of slight age toning inside.

A couple of tiny spine stress, orange distributor ink spray (which compliments the cover colors nicely) all along the top edge of pages and just a smidge on the back cover. Really nice wrap alignment.

Not the tightest 9.4 I’ve ever seen but still safely in that ballpark.

AQUAMAN #47

At first glance, looks like an easy NM- 9.2, however there are several non-color breaking spine stresses.

There’s also a tiny pinch crease on the front cover just above the “U” in “AQUAMAN” title, doesn’t break color.

There’s a tiny faint spot on the upper left edge of the back cover.

Still, a very attractive book overall.

AQUAMAN #48

Origin story from Adventure Comics #260, this is the first time Aquaman’s origin appears in his own title.

Again, another really sharp book at a glance. Just a couple of tiny spine stresses. Cover inks are really nice especially considering the dark areas of the cover.

Big draw back is the impact bump to the bottom of the spine with some color breaks.

There’s also a small chip off the top edge of the back cover and last page near the corner. Also some slight bending in that area.

A press might ease out the impact and slight bending but with the chips I don’t know that this would go much higher.

VERY FINE + 8.5
