Stains don't seem to be that hammered by CGC. I think you can have a book with half the cover with water damage/staining and still be VG. In this case, the stain happens to be a dark-colored one so it really hits the eye appeal, but not necessarily the technical grade. I don't understand how a stain like that combined with the other issues gets a 3.5, but sunshadow seemingly hammers the grades on books... I mean, congrats to the OP, it's a cool book no doubt... but how is that a 3.5 and this is a 3.0 (this book has very slight sunshadow on the edge of the back cover, I didn't feel like pulling it out for a pic right now): Edited September 23, 2021 by Jesse-Lee bikesnbuses
bikesnbuses
I sold that book a while ago (I upgraded) and happened to see someone else selling it this morning. That stain goes well into the book.. I mean, that's great for that seller but everyone here was pretty much in agreement on the grade ..that just means that I should buy their raw comics as they will be obviously undergraded!! Sun/dust shadows aren't too hammered by CGC either. I've seen them in VF and F books.

I just made a thread about this here: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/497271-share-your-books-that-you-feel-are-undergraded/ because I was curious as to others' experiences. I own two books that look way better than these that received lower grades, where the main culprit must have been sunshadow, unless something else is going on. That 8.5 pedigree Flash is crazy compared to my Batman 244 that I posted in that linked thread. I'll post the pics here too for comparison. Maybe there's something internal on my 244, but if it were that egregious, you'd think it'd be noted: Edited September 23, 2021 by Jesse-Lee

This Hulk #3 graded at a >>>> 3.5<<< via CGC!!!!! !! It is now part of a "set/run" on eBay.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174932100840?hash=item28bac406e8:g:vfIAAOSwLAVhEurs That is reasonable to me and it is what I would have given it when I saw the first post in the thread. It looks like without the stain it would have been a 5 or higher. CGC takes a grade off for a stain. As this stain penetrates the cover they took off more than a grade. grendelbo
The Hulk 3 was over-graded IMO. bikesnbuses
