I'm thinking 1920s or 30s

It kind of looks like a combination between Chester Gould and Hirshfield.

Here are 2 versions of the signatures.  I can't make them out.  Edward? O'Buell?

Anyone have a guess?

I would guess O'Brien rather than O'Buell, since it's a more common name and there seems to be a dot over the last name (or is that dirt?).  But I'm not familiar with him.  Maybe a search of the HA archives?  They sell a ton of OA of this type from the '20s and '30s.

Wikipedia lists a mural artist named Edward O'Brien; he was active from the early 1930s until his death in 1975.

It's difficult to say whether these sketches are by the same artist. I do see a similarity to his later works in terms of the oversized eyes. If you dig around online, you might find an image of his signature for comparison. There's also at least one book about him listed on Amazon.

Thanks Jimbo.  I saw this lot in an auction and was wondering if it was any known comic artist.  I don't think it is the Mural guy.
