A little less surprising than the 3.5 C-1 for 15,600 on HA a few months back. And congrats to the lucky boy or girl who got the A-1 4.5 for 4,500 in 2023.

I wasn't sure what to think of this.  Yes, it's pretty cool... but I'd rather have more books.  However it's Mask related so I'll post it here:

Love the Mask #1 stat.  It's hard to believe that something like this even exists. And it's not just some random Cole book... it's from one of his most significant covers.. I'm guessing it came from the files of L.B. Cole (along with the cover proofs that were auctioned about 10-15 years ago).

I am definitely not a resto guy, but I don't mind careful conservation of a book that needs stabilization. Hard to tell what was done with the tear seals. I assume that if it was tape, would CGC call it "tape" instead of "tear seals".  This price seems like a good deal to me.  Maybe a 40-50% discount from a blue label book in 3.0?

In May, an apparent 3.5 with small amount of color touch and small amount of glue (and a little more cover appeal) sold for 15K.  That's a huge difference in price. Here are the grade notes:

chip out bottom of spine
chip out top of spine
moderate creasing to cover
small amount of color touch on left center & bottom front cover
tear seals cover C-1
tears to cover

It is cool, but I don't think it's from the estate auction.  All of those items came signed and with a COA.  I'm sure that would have been mentioned if it was from there.  I have some of the items from that auction and that's how they all came.

Oooh, black logo variant. Haven’t seen one of those in a while. Interesting…

Yea, and then there's this little nugget in the description:

"GPAnalysis records the last public sale of a CGC 6.5 at $33,350 in 2023, which was for a standard blue cover copy, which will undoubtedly spark some intense bidding for this variant edition. Overstreet 2024 FN 6.0 value = $2,595; VF 8.0 value = $6,315. CGC census 9/24: 6 in 6.5, 16 higher."

I included the part about Overstreet for a good laugh.  :D  According to the census there are only 5 black logo variants, and this is the highest, so that part isn't correct either.  That part is for the standard printing.

There was an LB Cole original cover art pencil prelim from the collection of Roger Hill (EC and art specialist) of 'Mask Comics' 1 that just sold on HA.com, I believe. Could not believe the cover art still existed.

Read the fine print:

L.B. Cole Mask Comics #1 Cover Re-Creation Preliminary Original Art (c. 1980s).

Cole did many re-creations in the 1980's.  This may have been for this piece:

Mask 1 Recreation (Not Mine).jpg

Still, a very cool piece of art!

Does the Original Cover art for this still exist ??

There is very little original Cole work that has surfaced. Some Classics Illustrated pages, a Target cover, and maybe a few others. I've never seen a an original Golden/Atomic age horror cover by Cole.
