Hoping some here may have some experience as to how this type of cover (only) damage is graded?

Taking into consideration the condition otherwise, and being cautious, I'd put it at the 7.0 mark, but would hope for  higher. See how it goes with others

Other bidders seemed to shy away from this one (Feb, last year), and the seller seemed to feel the same way, but honored the sale all the same.

Are you sending it off to CGC for grading at all? Would be nice to see how it pans out.

No, I'd only slab my books if I planned to sell them. I was trying to establish if I was properly valuing it for insurance records.

It is kinda risky, but since I collect rather than build stock, I'm okay with it. The joy I feel in its growth is due to the fact that I don't have to pay  today's asking prices for a book I want

7.0 seems like a pretty fair grade...
