Ken Aldred
20 hours ago, 1950's war comics said: i was 14 years old when this issue came out and i was buying plenty of comics off the rack back then with my paper route money , i had 50 customers and was bringing in about $15.00 a week which was nice money for me , but it was this type of artwork that made me, more often than not, buy the Marvel reprints like Marvel Tales and the Marvel horror reprints like "Where Creatures Roam" because those artwork and stories were so much better , and then i could only look at Overstreet and dream of someday owning some Golden age .... We are around the same age. In the UK, many American Marvel titles were non-distributed during the 70s, but I recall a lot of Frank Robbins comics on the racks. Not fondly. JazzMan
5 hours ago, kav said: Then you'll adore this puppy: If memory serves me correctly, this panel came from Captain America 180 or 181. Robbins is expressing the malleable vulnerability of our hero who is going through an identity crisis as the Nomad. Nomad...an ancient word meaning a wanderer of the desert...as we see our hero navigate the desert of his existentialism through the outreach of motion and the development of additional muscle groups not found in nature. We experience with him as he contorts through life, his hands flail in a fluid motion reminiscent of a serious automobile accident after you got drunk attending your ex-girlfriend's marriage to the tattooed hooligan you used to purchase the daily paper from at the subway station. Ahhhh...poetry in motion. shiverbones and Ken Aldred
