I think the MCU has gotten into the trap that they must keep out doing themselves.   Bigger villains, bigger threats.  What they need to do is go small again and build back up.  I know they will claim they are doing that with the shoes, but the fact is the shows capture a small percentage of what the movies do, so that is not working.

Agreed - but I loved what they did with Wanda's arc - first with WandaVision - establishing her power, grief, and psychosis

in a way that primed her to be the "Big Bad" in Dr. Strange 2.

Overall, it wasn't a good movie - but her character arc across both projects was really well done.

And it was a textbook example of structuring a TV show to set up a movie.

(Or, presumably, two movies, given that we still haven't seen The Marvels.)

$225 million is fairly weak for an MCU film.  Based on current performance of MCU films this likely means the $600 to $650 million range.

Nah that US is weak and unlike Flop-anda this doesn't have a 5 week cakewalk with no other releases.   I'm saying 575-600M.

I like the idea of Wanda's arc, but hate that she did not have any tangible consequences.  Yes she "died" but will clearly be back. She should have had some level of repercussions for her actions in both WandaVision and MoM, because of this I feel like they damaged her character.

Quantumania has 360 million WW for the holiday weekend. Word of mouth seems to be in the positive all over social media. It’ll clear 575-600 million easily.

Wrong, $230M thru Sunday does not result in $360M 4 day. Cope harder. $100M typo :roflmao:

Those aren't actuals.  The actuals are about 223M right now.  I stand by my 575-600M.  This movie is not doing well either.

I guess it actually made $225 million WW this weekend. My bad for following the one website whose one job is to report box office numbers.

That's the 4-day weekend estimate for a domestic holiday weekend.

The recent history of MCU films is they do 2.5 times the opening weekend. That puts this movie at $562 million as a reasonable guess right now.  With the holiday weekend in the US, maybe put another $10 million over the normal number. So yeah, looking at $575 million.

Makes me wonder way the International estimates were so off.

Again a big number, but not for an MCU film that had a $200 million budget, and likely will spend $100 to $150 million in marketing.  I think the higher end with the amount Disney spent on Superball ads. Again, this is why they need to get budgets down. Especially when the last Ant Man movie budget was $162 and the first was $130 million.

Deadline was estimating China at $35-55M, it did $19M- partially explains int’l weakness

I think what we are seeing here is that nothing but B-D list characters are not going to be able to carry the MCU forward.
