Phew!

That was close.

With estimates coming in at $7.0 million for this weekend, Joker 2's drop is only 81.5% - so Ben Affleck and J-Lo's Gigli is safe.

Good for # 4 for the weekend, behind:

  • Terrifier 3;
  • The Wild Robot; and
  • Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

That`s a good comparison. Also, I just thought of Exorcist and Exorcist 2.

I think the Exorcist movies are probably the best comparison with the Joker flicks. The reception for Joker 2 reminds me a lot of what happened when Exorcist 2 was released. An absolute disaster, with audiences booing and laughing. Like Joker, Exorcist 2 was not only dissimilar to its predecessor, but it made it seem that a lot of what was seen in the first movie was not really important, changing the characters and the ending. Very similar situation to Joker 2.

Variety's already published a post-mortem.

Says Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix both received $20 million upfront, while Lady Gaga received $12 million.

To me, it's still the best and scariest horror movie ever!

Event Horizon.  I can watch The Excorcist today and not cry like a baby.  Time and maturity has lessen the shock of that movie.  I still can't watch Event Horizon.

***Haven't even dare to try the extended version

And, if the "Joker" is just an "idea", then why did we just spend 2+ hours following the "not Joker" doing absolutely nothing and getting no information on how the "idea of the Joker" is affecting Gotham City?  Where's the story arc?

This is so great I've diagramed it in my mind.

Yup. More often than not, one-off lightning in a bottle.
