Help with Grading Breaks of Color on Spine
0

9 posts in this topic

I looking for a little help in how to grade breaks in color along the spine.  The comic is from 2012 and has a glossy cover.  It has the two breaks in color along the spine between the staples as seen in the picture.  I actually received the comic direct from the publisher in this condition.  To me these look minor but I had someone tell me it is major damage.  I tried doing a little research, but opinions were all over the board.  Assuming no other defects to the comic, what kind of grade might be reasonable for the two color breaks?  Thank you!

I'm assuming the NG because I didn't show the whole cover?  Sorry, new to this.  I don't currently have the book in hand so I can't take new pics right now.  I do have a scan of the front cover.  The middle "tic" is just lighting as is the lower right corner in the scan. The two tics are nice and obvious against the dark background in the scan below.  My main concern is to learn  how to grade the tics.  Would these alone knock it below a 9.0?  8.5?  Lower? Thank you.LDTribulation-PhoenixRising.thumb.JPG.a8e14e6977e22d8238c3889c41491728.JPG

Yes.

No.

Based on just the FC - it appears to be above 9.0 grade.

Since you're asking about tics, one thing I do, as far as tics go, is to refer back to the Overstreet Grading guide (which isn't CGC grading rules but is prob close enough to get a decent idea).

There is a chart which shows number of defects and how it affects grade.  I only refer to it for books in very good shape  (ie 8.5 and above type books) where there's an easily countable number of defects  Things like the severity of the defect also come into play.    You shouldn't have a problem finding a used one for a good price on Ebay
