A thread about hero mantles originally taken on by one character, but were later taken on by other characters, whether they be relatives, associates, alternate-universe counterparts, and so on, and whether you think DC or Marvel has handled and written them better, and why.

Marvel because it seems like they have less. How many green lanterns do we need? Hal is only one that really took, maybe Jessica will. How many of Wolverines kids are relevant, Laura a clone is about it. To me it's just a lame way to sell comics. Once in a while one of them becomes a success. I rather see something different.

Best at it is DC because their silver age versions became more popular than the original.

I can hear the 90s kids screaming for Wally from where I'm sitting...

DC is clearly head and shoulders above Marvel with regards to passing down mantles.  Even their villains do it.

One of the most popularly received mantle transitions seems to be when Cassandra Cain received the mantle of Batgirl, leading to her headlining her own series which lasted for 73 issues from 2000-2006. Would you guys agree that it was handled well?
