He was sitting alone at a table. When I went up to him, he said he would sign ten books but after that, I'd have to go to the end of the line and wait before he'd sign the next ten. So, after he signed ten, I turned around and there wasn't anyone there. So he insisted on waiting until another person came, but no one ever did. After some awkward silence, he proceeded to sign the rest of my books. The end. After the first 10, did he shove his hand at you and say “50 bucks”? Marv is a tool and frankly a hack artist. It’s no wonder he rarely seems to have a line... letsgrumble and The Lions Den

But he will talk your ear off if you want him to/let him. 10 years ago if you told me I would have seen enough of Adams to never need to speak to him again, I wouldn't have believed you. By the way, none of this is to be meant as speaking ill of him. Because he is rather sociable, you can spend as much time as you want with him and I had my fill. And I never yelled at a creator nor wanted to, but Brian Azarello did raise his tone with me once when I was asking him too many questions about something I didn't get in his "Joker" book. He said, "look why not just come sit on my lap so I can explain everything to you?!" in a very sarcastic tone. I do tend to avoid him now, since he is as grim as the stories he tells and I just don't really know how to deal with his sarcasm. But then again not everyone can be as jovial as Jonathan Hickman or Ty Templeton. And of course, the best experience you will ever have is with Jim Shooter, what a stellar person. Popular Post devilsrain
I’m thoroughly enjoying this thread and hope to read more stories. I have too many to tell but here’s one. As everyone knows you do not give Chris Claremont a book to sign that has been window boxed anywhere other than over the logo. My boy Troy sent me a X Men 101 to get signed by him at NYCC several years ago. Window boxed in the middle of the book, dead center. I approach his table and I think I got out “ hi Mr Claremont........” before I got a profanity laced rant about how dumb I am for window boxing over that area. When he finished it was my turn. I said “ first of all it’s not my book, my friend sent it to get signed by you. I’m doing him a favor....I could give a flying F if you want to sign it or not” “Secondly, you don’t talk to me that way unless you want me to make you F’n cry in front of everyone” he then reluctantly signed it. It’s a shame it had to get there but Don’t let these guys ever talk to you that way. They’re not rockstars. The last couple years I've dealt with him plenty, and I had books window boxed every which way and in those blue pre-made thingies which often cover at least part of the logo on an X-Men book. Never once had a problem. littledoom and The Lions Den

telerites
This reminds of the story of Jim Steranko slapping Bob Kane "SDCC: Steranko Discusses Working with Stan Lee, Slapping Bob Kane" https://www.cbr.com/sdcc-steranko-discusses-working-with-stan-lee-slapping-bob-kane/ Although his relationship with Lee could become contentious, Steranko's fight with Bob Kane was far more inflammatory. "I'd written both volumes of my history of comics including my 'Batman' section," said Steranko. Although, he had never met Kane. "So this guy brought me over to this group of about five guys. So, there was one guy who was wearing patent leather shoes and ascot, at Comic-Con." That was Kane. After a brief conversation, "Bob turned around and said, 'See you later Jim, baby,' and he cuffed me across my face, and the doors closed before I could do anything." "I tried, I really tried to sleep that night. Couldn't do it," said Steranko. He set out to look for Kane the next day. His opinion of the "Batman" creator dropping along the path. "I always said that 'Batman" was the comic book version of "The Shadow.'" Finally, Steranko found him. "I person_without_enough_empathyslapped him across the face and I said 'See you later Bob, baby.'" And, in case there was any confusion over Steranko's motives. "This was what I regret about the whole incident, is that he didn't take a swing at me, because you would have seen him on the Bat-floor." I was at a small show in Fairborn, Ohio around 10 years ago when I met him. I went up to his table, made some small talk, and I bought 2 of his prints because I liked them (Spider-man cover homages featuring Duck-based characters). He required any signed items to be personalized, which was fine with me. As he handed it to me, he said "I signed in the margin so you can cut off the personalization and sell it on ebay." My excitement for his work diminished completely after that. I wasn't planning on selling the prints, but at that point I couldn't look at them without thinking about the poor interaction. I'm pretty sure I sold them here on the boards, un-cut, making sure to make no profit on them just so he wouldn't be right. I've never been back to visit him since. It sounds like this wasn't an isolated incident. F For Fake, The Lions Den, Larryw7 and 1 other 2 1
