Idealism as applied to science: Anson MacDonald (Robert A. Heinlein) wrote a short story about the “Waldo F. Jones' Synchronous Reduplicating Pantograph.".  After publication, remote controlled devices would become popularly known as "Waldoes"...

I’ve tried to avoid posting the usual war patriotism covers even though those are excellent examples of patriotic idealism and fit very nicely into this thread.  For my own part, however, I’m approaching this theme from a slightly more abstract POV.  For example, this cover and the featured story “By George” reflects upon how biases and misinterpreted motivations arise from ignorance...
