Late era Fight Stories, George Gross.  Decent copies.  Fight Stories is a favorite pulp, a repository of boxing and other fight lore.

More famous issues, not quite so nice :D

The v01n01, always a target for the magazine scanner, even in this condition, Abell Sturges

The Bergey's got great colors.  The Star Sports in the upper right, though, is a viscous stiffarm :tonofbricks:

Thank you 😆 yah that stiff arm is great! The Star Sports was the first sports pulp title that Martin Goodman produced. The editor of that pulp title was Sydney Charles Goodman, Martin’s little brother, who would die in 1937 due to a fever. SCG also edited all the Ka-zar pulps.

Do any members here have copies of Super Sports October 1941, Super Sports April 1944, or Sports Winners July 1941 in their collection? I'm working on a project about author David Goodis and wanted to confirm some bibliographic info in these magazines. Thank you!

I checked my collection and don't have any of the issues.  I believe Michelle Nolan, who has written a book and some other things on Sports Pulps (as well as other topics in the comics), might be the person to ask.  In case you aren't familiar with Galactic Central which is an excellent index of pulp that's been built up over the years and incorporates the works an army of indexers, you can find it here:

http://www.philsp.com/

Entries for the three editions you mention while I'm poking around there.  I see some David Goodis in other Super Sports issues as well:

super_sports_194404.jpg.f0e8a73b83000ba2ad11e3893fa31d12.jpg

No index information given (do send a copy of the table of contents to the index if you happen to come across it, eh?)

No Cover for the Sports Winners 1941-07 issue (the index needs that, too, if somebody posts it here, I'll make sure it gets up), but we do have contents.

  • [Vol. III No. 2, July 1941] (Columbia Publications, Inc., 10¢, 98pp+, pulp, cover by J. W. Scott) []
    Details supplied by Shane Farmer.

If you aren't familiar with it, the old Yahoo Pulpscans group moved to io and remains the most active place on the web I know of for discussing and sharing material regarding pulp authors and artists.  I see a number of Goodis issues that have appeared from Manhunt, The Lone Eagle, John Bull, Battle Birds, Life Romances, Black Mask, Cosmopolitan, Dare-Devil Aces, and likely many others.  A great place to find scans but also information:

https://pulpscans.groups.io/g/main

Good luck!

P.S. Here's the chronological entry (likely in no way complete) for Goodis from the index:

Thank you, Darwination! Greatly appreciate you checking your collection and for the suggestions. I'm a big fan of The FictionMags Index and have been living there lately :) I always just like to try and double check and verify information with a hardcopy whenever possible. I've posted to the PulpScans group in the past but didn't get any hits, so I'm trying to broaden my search.

Thank you again!

Best regards,

Cullen
