Without that tear let's say the grade is 8.5. We need to penalize that tear somehow. If I take 6 grades off for the tear, I will call it a 5.5

Looking for opinions from others.

I guess I'm the downer of the bunch but I wouldn't call that higher than a 3.0 to 4.0 with that chunk out of the cover...

On older books I have seen tears like this and they are generally graded in the range 1.8-2.5 by CGC. Yet to see a modern book with similar defect. Is there any set rule how you penalize tears in general?
