migmtl76
Hi all, I wonder if it's worth cracking this slab and having it pressed again to improve the grade. The book has already been pressed once but not cleaned (oupsie). Do you think it would make a difference ? Has anyone done this with a grade boost? Thanks
Funnybooks
I don't believe an additional press and/or clean will improve the grade when it comes to moisture damage of this extent. migmtl76 and Deadpoolica

Lightning55
I would think proper pressing would flatten that right out. Certainly a cleaning could help. Maybe @joeypost could offer a more informed opinion. B2D327

Some irreversible damage has been done (I can only imagine this would have graded higher if no pressing was done), but the warping and rippling can be removed by an experienced presser. Here is an example of a book butchered in a failed press attempt. Here is the same book after being pressed/cleaned/hydrated correctly. So you're saying the ASM 129 could be improved to maybe a 6.0 or 6.5 with a proper press ?

joeypost
I would also recommend finding someone else to press your books. The Lions Den
comicginger1789
Def have someone else press it. Looks like they buggered it up in the first place (unless you sent it in like that)

It certainly would help the eye appeal. It should help boost the grade as well...but how much is anybody's guess. migmtl76
B2D327
Those can definitely be pressed out but the dirt may be embedded from the last presser not cleaning the book first. I can see an improvement in the book though if done properly

True, which is why I said “may”, but good practice is not taking that chance in the first place where you could potentially make things worse. 😉
