Is this common on square bound books? Along the spine, there's all these tiny lines - is it possibly from the glue used for these square bounds?

If not for those lines, I would think this 9.4+.

What would you grade this?

yes from the glue used.  Mileage of what it looks like many years later would be due to climate conditions/storage practice.  Looks 9.4+

Could be pressed but needs special care as too much heat and pressure can melt the glue and then you have serious problems
