Comixroc
So, I found my ASM #300 at my parents house this evening. I purchased it at a comic shop on release day. It’s beat up. However, I’m wondering what a pressing and cleaning will do.🤔 Or, is the damage bad enough that I should look at restoration. In either case, if you guys could recommend a great presser or restoration expert, that would be great. Thanks for your time, guys.

I think I’ll look into getting the book restored, just for a visual presentation. Or, maybe aim for conservation Work?🤔

I would recommend that you save this money, and put it toward a nicer CGC-graded copy.

RhialtoTheMarvellous
The defects won’t really be helped by pressing. Lots of color breaking spine stress lines and then color breaking creases and then the chipping and tears. It’s not worth restoring. A 9.8 unrestored brings around $2500 and professional restoration services start at $1000.

nonquixote
I think it's no better than a 6.0. As a general rule restoration does little to raise value unless it's a really rare classic book such as Action Comics #1 in really bad shape. To make it more presentable you can press it yourself using a clothes iron, some backer boards, and some parchment paper. Look up some YouTube videos on that before trying it. Be careful not to set the iron's temperature too high, somewhere around the wool setting or medium should be OK. With your book in its current condition you are unlikely to do much harm as long as you don't scorch it, and you can at least flatten out the edges and smooth any waviness that way. comicginger1789
Definitely not worth it to restore. Comic restoration is frowned upon and many collectors despise it. That being said, certain OLDER books from the 40s and 50s have restoration as back in the 80s, it was not deemed a terrible thing. With this book, restoration would kill any value and cost so much it would outweigh the amount you could ever hope to sell the book for (if you ever did). I get that you want it to present well but this book is not all that bad. 6.0 range from me, which is a perfectly good grade to get. Plus, it should still look sharp in a CGC case.
