Pantodude
Has anyone EVER seen one, like stamped "GILBOY JUN 5", on a Golden or Silver Age book? Gilboy was (is?) a San Francisco distributor that distributed the Reilly or San Francisco pedigree books, but back then it only used a cursive "g", sometime accompanied by a handwritten date. I have come across only one (the example given). Kind of like provenance without having pedigree book. Edited March 16, 2022 by Pantodude
Pantodude
Trying again. So no one has ever seen a date stamp that includes distributor name, here on a 1962 Marvel book? comicdonna
Search the Tom Reilly Collection. I think it's a distributor for stores. Pantodude

Hi and thanks. Are you saying that I can see scans of the books in that collection? Why didn't I think of that! But I think the Gilboy markings on the Golden Age stuff in that collection (as I recall reading) was handwritten/cursive, just a "g", which is why i am so intrigued by the SA "GILBOY" version. I will check that collection though. Edited December 11, 2020 by Pantodude comicdonna
buttock
The distributor codes were applied by the retailer, not the distributor. It was a way of noting which distributor they would return books to for those that didn't sell. comicdonna and Pantodude 1
