When it comes to authors' first books, think of it like "a publication where they are the sole author" rather than what looks like a book.  Lovecraft's first "book" is a 4 page pamphlet.

The more I think about it, especially, I would think so with volumes intended for resale. You'd have to be a bit of an academic to split that hair. Hey, I don't know art, I just know what I like.

Robert E Howard? I remember when I first started reading his work. It was like walking through a door and emerging as a better person. He was one of three authors who "changed" me. The others are ERB and HPL. As an author, I guess you've made it when you are referred to by your initials. GOD BLESS...

In today.  I love being so early into my Arkham House collecting that I can still find interesting books in nice shape cheaply.

Congrats!  Very nice copy.

I think the contents, which were written 1838-40, are probably the earliest stories collected by Arkham House.  The other Le Fanu collection, Green Tea and Other Ghost Stories, contains later stories.  Dark of the Moon does contain some earlier works, but they are poems not stories.
