Kerdese
So, I bought this issue a long time ago in the $1 or $2 dollar bin, we’re talking a year or so after it came out. If you look closely, it’s came with a significant tear by the title, about two inches. I’m on the fence about sending it in for grading. I’m guessing it’s worthless, but not completely convinced since 6.0’s are valued at 210. Worth the trouble or no way?
B2D327
Yes, it’s worth getting a certified grade. The tear would steer potential buyers away but a slabbed copy would attract some that would consider it an affordable copy based on a certified grade imo, and would also give you a ballpark figure for a starting/asking price Kerdese and Sauce Dog

I would put it in the PGM page so they can give a opinion but if its in your estimate 6.0 around 200 dollars Kerdese
theCapraAegagrus
It's not worthless, but IMO it's not worth sending in to CGC. Kerdese
Old_Man_Adam
I’d press it and sell it raw ... more importantly is that Soundgarden’s “ down on the upside” vinyl behind it ? damn I miss tower records Edited December 7, 2020 by Old_Man_Adam The Lions Den and Kerdese
Topnotchman
If your intent is to sell the book on Ebay, take good pictures and include the known flaws and set your price. Its reasonable to price this book raw at $200.00 or even slightly higher. All the costs of shipping and grading would not be necessary to get any added value out of a mid grade New Mutants 98. It has several flaws that can be pressed out. The cleaning process would help some too. And yes that is a Soundgarden vinyl from tower records. Miss me some record stores. Never opened it because I had the CD. It’s sitting on a few other vinyls. Have an autographed one framed. I think I’ll send it in since it needs pressing anyway and I’ll keep it for myself, at least for a little while.

Jeffro.
With a tear like that how likely is it that it will get a green label?

Would that devalue it? ive thought about sending in autographed books. I have 4 signed by Marc Silvestri and 2 signed by Chris Claremont and 1 signed by both. zzutak
For what it's worth (which may not be much), I have never and will never purchase anything from someone who assigns a grade of FINE (6.0 FN) to a book with a nasty 2" front cover tear. I’m not sure what its value is. I just saw a 6.0 was still worth a little bit of money. Wondering if the tear will make it a 6.0 or something like a 3.0. Without the tear it’s definitely higher than 6.0. Somewhere in the 7’s or 8’s would be my guess.

From the pic you posted, I can see an 8.0 before whatever hit you’d take for the tear based on the dinged upper left corner and some visible edge wear but you can get a ballpark estimate from more boardies by posting some good quality pics of the front and back in the “spare a grade” forum.
